A very enjoyable and successful trip. We saw pilot whales. A fantastic experience. The boat had a pleasantly small number of passengers.

The crew was fantastic, the guide was perfect—very professional, with interesting explanations and a great sense of humor. There was a lovely atmosphere on the boat. The restrooms and changing facilities were very much appreciated. I really enjoyed this cruise; it was comfortable, and of course, we saw dolphins. I highly recommend it.

Reviews: Ponta de São Lourenço (PR8): Hiking Tour with a Geologist
Guest User2026-10-21
So many aspects of this tour is worth mentioning. The first among was Sandro's knowledge, I had knowledge myself already about geology as an amateur and it was clear Sandro had the expertise he professed. He had prepared well and explained the tectonic processes using models he had brought with him, along with videos and images from his I-Pad. My wife who is less knowledgable said she understood everything Sandro explained. The aspect for me that was exceptionally interesting was the fact Madeira has effectively strata of sedimentary rock that wasn't laid down in the usual river beds as in sandstone in Scotland , but was laid down by volcanic hot ash builtbup over time that effectively solidified if not immediately upon falling to the ground still hot, it did do by ordinary lithification processes through rain water. Second, the examples of dykes in Madeira are exceptional exhibits unlike anything from Scotland. Madeira is perfectly placed at São Lourenço to show off this Geology.
