Marine World Umi-no-nakamichi, located in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, opened in 1989 with the concept of being "an aquarium that adults can enjoy as well." This aquarium exhibits approximately 350 species and 30,000 marine creatures. It features a beautiful exterior reminiscent of a white shell. It has four floors above ground, a site area of 48,000㎡, and a total floor space of 21,400㎡. It is one of the top five aquariums in Japan. One of the most popular attractions at Marine World Umi-no-Nakamichi is the performance show featuring dolphins and sea lions. A wide variety of dolphins, including Pacific white-sided dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and short-finned pilot whales, appear here and perform in perfect harmony with their trainers. The dolphins are particularly impressive when they jump across the pool or when the trainers perform tricks while riding on the dolphins' backs. In addition, at the end of the show, there is a unique element where the dolphins throw a ball towards the audience with their tails, making the audience feel even closer to the dolphins.Fukuoka · 8.6 km from downtown

Kushida Shrine has been an important guardian shrine for the Hakata area since ancient times, and locals affectionately call it "Kushida-san." The shrine is closely linked to the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival held every July, a tradition spanning hundreds of years that has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The "Oiyama" race held on the early morning of July 15 is a key part of the festival, where teams carry Yamakasa floats weighing approx. 1 ton and run along a route of approx. 5 km, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The shrine grounds feature a permanent display of ornate decorative Yamakasa floats, standing over 10m tall, whose intricate decorations showcase traditional craftsmanship and serve as a representative view. Near the entrance stands the Kushida Ginkgo tree, said to be over 1,000 years old, with lush foliage that, together with the ancient shrine buildings, evokes a profound sense of history. In early spring, the Kawazu cherry blossoms on the grounds bloom, adding a soft spring touch to the shrine. Whether you are admiring traditional architecture, learning about Hakata customs, or experiencing local festival culture, this place showcases distinct regional characteristics.Fukuoka · 859m from downtown

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is a historic shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, built over the grave of Sugawara no Michizane, and is an important center for Tenmangu shrines across Japan. Sugawara no Michizane was exiled to Dazaifu due to political strife during the Heian period and passed away there. He was later revered as the deity of learning and culture, making this a long-standing place of worship for those praying for academic success and success in exams. Upon entering the grounds, the Shinji-ike Pond and the three arched bridges spanning it form an iconic view. The pond is named for its resemblance to the character for "heart," and the three bridges symbolize the past, present, and future, respectively. Several stone statues of reclining sacred oxen are scattered throughout the grounds, reflecting the traditional connection between the ox and Sugawara no Michizane. The Tobiume (Flying Plum Tree) beside the main hall carries the legend of a plum tree that flew here from Kyoto in a single night. It is the first to bloom each year, adding vitality to the spring. The garden is planted with approx. 200 varieties and 6,000 plum trees, creating a particularly rich landscape during the blooming season, and you can also enjoy irises in early summer. Traditional festivals and cultural events are also preserved here. The Usokae ritual held every January involves exchanging wooden bird carvings to express wishes, and the Kyokusui no En (Winding Stream Banquet) is held on the first Sunday of March, where participants dressed in Heian-period attire recite poems by the flowing water, recreating the elegance of ancient banquets. After your visit, you can stroll along the approach and taste Umegae Mochi, a grilled rice cake with a crispy exterior and red bean filling, to experience the local traditional food culture.Dazaifu · 14.5 km from Fukuoka

Since the beginning of the Meiji era, Moji Port has been an important international trade port in Japan. It is located in Kyushu, connected to Honshu Island, and faces the Chinese mainland. Ships from Europe, America, Asia and Japan are busy here every day. Noisy, lively. With the development of the municipal government, although Mojigang has lost its former scenery, the European-style buildings in the port area still exude a charming charm. After another renovation, while retaining the European style of the original Western-style buildings in Japan, it is plated with the nostalgic atmosphere of the Taisho period in Japan. The European style and nostalgia add radiance and beauty to each other. After the Moji Port nostalgic area, the former bustling port has become a tourist attraction that attracts domestic and foreign tourists today. Shops and restaurants are lined up, and tourists can freely take outdoor photography. The former Osaka Merchant Shipping Company, the former Moji Port Customs and the former Moji Mitsui Club are all very popular tourist historical buildings in Moji Port, which are open for tourists to visit. Walking into these houses, you can taste the Japanese European style a hundred years ago, and learn the gorgeous culture of Mosigang for a hundred years.Kitakyushu City · 65.2 km from Fukuoka

Fukuoka Castle Ruins are located west of the Naka River and east of Ohori Park. This is a nationally designated historic site, also known by the names "Fukuoka Castle Ruins" and "Stone Castle." Kuroda Nagamasa was granted the 520,000-koku fief of Chikuzen for his distinguished military service at the Battle of Sekigahara. Starting in 1600, he spent 7 years building this castle. The entire structure is a large-scale hirayamajiro (flatland-mountain castle). Due to wars and various destructive factors, only the Otemon Gate, Den Shiomi-Yagura Turret, the Nagayamamon Gate of Mori Taibei's residence, the Honmaru (main bailey), Ninomaru (second bailey), and Sannomaru (third bailey) stone walls remain. Additionally, the castle grounds house an athletics stadium, the Heiwadai Baseball Stadium, and the Heiwadai Athletic Stadium, which is famous as the starting point for the Fukuoka International Marathon. It is said that the castle was never built with a main keep (tenshukaku), but it was famous for having three keep foundations—large, medium, and small—and 47 watchtowers. The moat contains sedge, a natural wild vegetation monument designated by Fukuoka Prefecture, and the Man'yo Tanka Inscription stands within the castle grounds. Recently, ruins of the Korokan Ruins Museum (Korokan Ruins Museum), a guesthouse from theDazaifu Tenmangu Shrineera, were discovered near the Heiwadai Baseball Stadium. Today, the site, which includes remnants such as the main gate, is open to the public as Maizuru Park.Fukuoka · 1.8 km from downtown

This place is truly worth visiting repeatedly; each visit offers a different experience. The scenery changes with the seasons, so there's always a surprise no matter when you come. The overall pace is leisurely, perfect for letting go of all the hustle and bustle and slowly appreciating the beauty around you. The local atmosphere is vibrant, and you can feel the unique warmth and life of the place. After coming here, I realized that the best scenery isn't about crowded hotspots, but rather this kind of comforting and reassuring atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Kushida Shrine is a must-visit shrine when you come to Hakata. You must come to see the Gion Yamakasa. Although I didn't come in July, I didn't see the big Yamakasa in the city, but I can see the Yamakasa in Kushida Shrine. Read the introduction According to the legend of the shrine, Kushida Shrine was founded in the first year of Tenpyo Hoji (757) and has been the general guardian of Hakata since ancient times. The Hakata Festival is a representative festival of Fukuoka City and is well-known throughout the country.

Of the castle ruins, nothing remains except the stone foundation. The feudal lord was pragmatic, building only three castle towers: large, medium, and small. Tamon Turret is overgrown with weeds; the other turrets have only their foundation stones left, while others are merely imaginary.
