The Blue Lagoon is located in Grindavik on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland. It is a geothermal hot spring formed by volcanic lava. The water temperature is about 37-39 degrees Celsius. The lake water is rich in minerals such as silicon and sulfur, making it appear faint blue. Hot spring experience The Blue Lagoon has now become a symbol of Iceland. Many people who come to Iceland will choose to take a good bath here. Volcanic mud mask Don't forget to apply some silica mud on your face as a mask when taking a hot spring bath. The silica mud here is volcanic mud, which contains many minerals. Sauna In addition, you can also go to the sauna on the shore to steam for a while, and then come out to continue soaking. If it snows, it feels very unusual to immerse your body in warm water and look up at the white snow flying all over the sky.Grindavik · 4.1 km from downtown

Fagradalsfjall Volcanois located between the Svartsengi and Krýsuvík volcanic systems. Formed under glaciers during the last glacial period, it is a table mountain with a flat top, and its name means "mountain of the beautiful valley" in Icelandic. In March 2021, a fissure opened in the Geldingadalir valley, and magma erupted onto the surface, continuing for about half a year. This ended the peninsula's approximately 800-year dormancy and marked the beginning of a new period of volcanic activity. Subsequently, eruptions occurred at Meradalir in 2022 and Litli-Hrútur in 2023, with surging lava fountains attracting tens of thousands of people who hiked specifically to witness them.Grindavik · 9.7 km from downtown

Gunnuhver Hot Springs is located on the Reykjanesskagi in southwestern Iceland and is one of the most active geothermal areas in Iceland, known for its massive steam vents and bubbling mud pools. The landscape of the spring area is colorful, with yellow sulfur deposits and reddish-brown minerals interwoven against the backdrop of gray mud. Large amounts of white steam continuously gush from fissures in the ground, creating a spectacular and mysterious scene. A legend of an Icelandic female ghost named "Gunn" circulates here. It is said that a female ghost named Gunn once wreaked havoc here, and a sorcerer trapped her in the hot spring, which is how the hot spring got its name. The area features walking paths where you can get a close-up view of the geothermal landscape and feel the powerful energy of the earth bursting from the surface.Grindavik · 12.4 km from downtown

Bridge Between Continents

Bridge Between Continents

4
Bridge Between Continents is a pedestrian bridge about 15m long on the Reykjanes Peninsula that spans the rift between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate, and is one of the few places on Earth where you can stand with one foot on each continent. The bridge was completed in 2002 and is also known as Leif the Lucky Bridge, named in honor of Icelandic explorer Leif Erikson. Signs on the bridge mark the boundary between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate, and visitors can hold the handrails on both sides to symbolically stand on both plates at once. From the bridge, you can clearly see the widening rift landscape on both sides and directly observe the geological traces left by plate movement. After your visit, you can go to the Reykjanes Information Center to pick up an exclusive certificate commemorating crossing the two continents, making it a must-see spot that combines science education with a unique, memorable experience.Reykjanesbaer · 11.9 km from Grindavik

The Icelandic Phallological Museum is located in the center of Reykjavik. It is one of the few museums in the world dedicated to specimens of reproductive organs, founded by Sigurður Hjartarson. This seemingly bizarre museum actually combines biological research with cultural interest, making it one of Iceland's unique popular science attractions. The collection covers hundreds of specimens from over a hundred mammal species, ranging from cetaceans, walruses, seals, and polar bears to native species like Icelandic horses and reindeer. A sperm whale specimen over one m long exudes an imposing presence, while the bone of a hamster's reproductive organ is only millimeters in size and requires a magnifying glass to see clearly. The specimens are systematically preserved in formaldehyde jars or mounted on walls. Human specimens are another highlight: the museum waited years for a suitable donated human specimen, and this story was even documented in a film; a set of silver sculptures modeled after Iceland's national handball team, which won silver at the Beijing Olympics, is also often talked about.Reykjavik · 41.8 km from Grindavik

Hallgrimskirkja sits on a hill in the capital of Iceland and is named after the 17th-century Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson. The church was designed by Icelandic architect Guðjón Samúelsson, with a design inspired by the natural forms of Iceland's basalt columns, featuring hexagonal pillars reaching upward. The tapering wings on both sides of the tower resemble a giant pipe organ standing on the city skyline when viewed from a distance. Construction began in 1945 and was completed in 1986, spanning over 40 years. The tower is approx. 73m high and is a prominent landmark on the Reykjavik skyline. Visitors can take an elevator to the observation deck at the top of the tower to overlook the city's colorful rooftops and the bay and mountains in the distance. The interior of the church is towering and minimalist, with a large pipe organ featuring over 5,000 pipes spanning above the entrance. It is one of the largest pipe organs in Iceland, making the church an important music venue in Reykjavik that regularly hosts organ concerts.Reykjavik · 41.5 km from Grindavik

As a landmark hot spring in Iceland, it's definitely worth a visit. The colors are truly unique, and the scenery is beautiful. Soaking in the hot spring while looking at the volcano and snow-capped mountains, and enjoying a cocktail is very relaxing.

Fagradalsfjall volcano erupted in 2021, creating this incredibile lava field in the Reykjanes peninsula, in the South western side of Iceland. There is a short hike to this incredibile site, however, it is wiser to go there with a guide, as accidents related to gases and heat might occur. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking, overwordly.

This was definitely the most unique and fascinating experience of my trip to Iceland! I thought it might be a niche attraction, but I was surprised by how rich and profound its content was. The museum houses a wide variety of specimens, from whales to humans, perfectly blending curiosity, science, and humor. The explanations are detailed and the layout is clear, not at all cheesy, but instead full of educational value and a sense of the wonder of life. The gift shop's creative souvenirs are truly hilarious. If you're tired of the usual natural scenery, a visit here will definitely bring you unexpected joy and reflection. Highly recommended for all open-minded travelers!

This museum is definitely worth the price of admission, and buying family tickets online is significantly cheaper than visiting the museum. The aurora, volcano, and ice cave experiences are truly breathtaking. It's a must-see for families. The rooftop observation deck is also worth a visit.

The Northern Lights Center in Reykjavik, Iceland. According to the locals, this place is an aurora viewing center established by four young people. The most important thing to do when going to Iceland is to chase the aurora. This place is in a great location to watch the laser-shaped aurora.
