Itsukushima Shrine is a shrine located on Itsukushima Island in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. It was founded around 593 and mainly dedicated to the three sea goddesses (the three goddesses of Munakata) in ancient Japanese legends. Itsukushima Shrine was built on the intertidal zone of the Seto Inland Sea. The large torii gate (Japanese-style archway) standing in the sea in front of the shrine is a well-known landmark in Itsukushima, known as one of the "Three Views of Japan". In addition to most of the architectural structures of Itsukushima Shrine designated as national treasures by the Japanese government, the shrine also houses many national treasure-level items, and in 1996, it was listed on the World Heritage List with the original forest area on Mount Mi behind the shrine. (The shrine is a world cultural heritage, while Misan is a world natural heritage).Hatsukaichi · 5.9 km from downtown

Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima is located in the center of Hiroshima City and was designed and built in 1954 by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. The park is filled with lush greenery and cherry blossoms in the spring, and two rivers flow around it, creating a stark contrast to the severe trauma caused by the atomic bombing during World War II. The park houses the Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and more. A peace memorial ceremony is also held every year on August 6.Hiroshima City · 12.1 km from Hatsukaichi

The Atomic Bomb Dome, also known as theAtomic Bomb Dome, was originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, located on the banks of the Motoyasu River in the center of Hiroshima City. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. military dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Almost all buildings near the hypocenter were razed to the ground, but this building barely remained standing. Today, this architectural ruin is preserved as a memorial to this event and has been inscribed on the World Heritage List. You can often meet family members of atomic bomb survivors nearby, who enthusiastically share the history of the Atomic Bomb Dome and their family stories with foreign tourists in English. This is also a place frequently visited by local primary and middle school students, and peace groups from all over Japan hold memorial activities here every year. The Hiroshima City government built the Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima around the Atomic Bomb Dome. In addition to numerous statues and monuments, the park also houses the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which displays items such as clothing, glasses, and hair that survived the atomic bombing, and is worth a visit. Every year on August 6, locals hold a lantern-floating ceremony on the Motoyasu River, releasing colorful lanterns inscribed with memorial messages and prayers into the river.Hiroshima City · 12.4 km from Hatsukaichi

Megashira Hot Spring Megahira Ski Resort is located in the mountainous area in the north of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, about an hour's drive from downtown Hiroshima. It has abundant snowfall in winter, with an average annual snow depth of more than 2 meters. The ski resort surrounded by mountains overlooks the Seto Inland Sea and the continuous ridges. When the weather is clear, you can see the silhouette of the shrine torii of Miyajima in the distance. The ski area has a total length of about 5 kilometers of snow trails, covering beginner to intermediate difficulty levels, of which 30% are gentle "family snow trails" equipped with independent magic carpet conveyor belts, suitable for children and novices to practice safely. The middle section of the snow trail passes through the native cedar forest, with a moderate slope, combining nature and fun. As part of the "Megahiraonsen" hot spring area, you can go directly to the adjacent hot spring facilities after skiing, relax in the open-air bath, and experience the Japanese healing culture of the fusion of snow scenery and hot springs.Hatsukaichi · 24 km from downtown

Miyajima, also called Itsukushima, is located in the southwest of Hiroshima Prefecture, and is listed as one of the "Three Views of Japan" along with Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Amanohashidate in Kyoto Prefecture. There are world cultural heritage sites such as Itsukushima Shrine, Mishan, and many historic shrines and temples. When you come to Miyajima, you can see the Itsukushima Shrine built by the sea and the large vermilion torii that stands in the sea. This is a famous landscape of Miyajima. The elegant shrine of vermilion lacquer in the shrine combines with the blue of the sea in front of it and the emerald green of the virgin forest of Misan in the background, making people feel the beauty and splendor of the Heian period. In the sea about 200 meters in front of the shrine, there is a large red torii gate with a height of 16.6 meters, which is very eye-catching. In addition to Itsukushima Shrine, Miyajima has many other temples worth visiting. To the west of Itsukushima Shrine is the Daiganji Temple, which is famous for housing Japan's three major Bensaiten (one of the seven gods of good fortune). On the hill to the left (northeast) of the entrance to Itsukushima Shrine, there are five-storied pagodas that combine Japanese and Chinese styles, and Senjokaku, which is said to have a thousand tatami in the main hall. About 10 minutes southwest from Itsukushima Shrine, there is a Daisho-in Temple, where you can see many Buddhist halls, mandalas and Buddha statues. Misan is the main peak of Miyajima. There are many rare plants that can only be seen in Miyajima growing in the virgin forest on the mountain. It is also a good place to get close to nature. It is wonderful to take the aerial cable car to climb the mountain and see the magnificent scenery of Miyajima from mid-air; hiking from the foot of the mountain is also unique, and you will encounter many cute deer along the way. Next to the end of the ropeway is the Shishi Rock Observatory, from which you can enjoy the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. Continue to walk to the top of the mountain, and the 360-degree viewing angle is even more fascinating. On a clear day, you can see the peaks of Shikoku in the distance. In addition, there are many shrines, Buddhist pavilions and other historical sites that can be visited on the top of Misan Mountain.Hatsukaichi · 8.7 km from downtown

Hiroshima Castle is located on the flat ground of the delta of the Ota River. Because it looks like a black carp, it is also known as "Carp Castle". It was built by the famous general Mori Terumoto in 1589, and it took 10 years to complete. This beautiful castle was completely destroyed in the atomic bombing of 1945. The current castle was rebuilt in 1958 in the same way as it was, standing on the top of the city overlooking the surrounding city. In addition to exhibiting historical arts and crafts, Hiroshima Castle is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting many cherry blossom viewing tourists every spring.Hiroshima City · 13.2 km from Hatsukaichi

About 200 meters in front of Itsukushima Shrine, there is a large red torii gate with a height of 16.6 meters, which is the iconic landscape of Miyajima. When the sea is high tide, the large torii gate, which is half-submerged by the sea, looks mysterious and spectacular, and it is especially beautiful when viewed from the stage "Before the Fire" that stretches out from Itsukushima Shrine. After the tide goes out, you can go directly to the bottom of the big torii gate and watch it up close. At dusk, the golden sky reflects the majestic appearance of the large torii gate, which is a good time to take pictures. At night, the shrine and the large torii gate will be lit up with lights, which has a unique flavor. If you stay overnight in Miyajima, the Itsukushima Shrine and the Great Torii Gate in the early morning are especially sacred, peaceful and beautiful, not to be missed.Hatsukaichi · 5.9 km from downtown

Itsukushima Shrine enshrines the Munakata Three Goddesses, who protect the sea. The torii gate is built in the sea to integrate the shrine with the ocean, symbolizing the "boundary between the realm of the gods and the human world." The submerged state of the gate under the seawater emphasizes reverence for the sea goddess, aligning with the original intention of worshipping ocean deities. There is also a statue of Lanling Wang in the harbor; the previous occupant of the island had some connection with Lanling Wang.

Experience Hiroshima's heart and history in one powerful spot: the iconic Atomic Bomb Dome. This site sits at the center of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park—a must-see for everyone interested in world history 🌏 The dome, a haunting but beautiful ruin against a sunny sky, is open to visitors all day, year-round.Must-See in Hiroshima City:Atomic Bomb Dome (1-10 Otemachi, Naka Ward, Hiroshima, 730-0051, Japan) Practical Tips:- The entire Peace Memorial Park is walkable and free, so bring comfy shoes.- Getting around Hiroshima is super easy with the streetcar network—just swipe an IC card straight from the airport or main station.- Try local okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) at a spot near Hondori Street for lunch afterwards.- There’s no entrance fee to the Dome, but consider a donation at the Peace Museum nearby for upkeep and education.Final Thoughts:No matter when you visit, pack respect and a little time for quiet reflection. Hiroshima’s story stays with you.

When I was on a business trip to Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, I took a train to near Miyajima and then took a ferry across. For lunch, I had the local specialty conger eel rice and a beer, then strolled over to the aquarium. As the sun gradually sank, I spent some time relaxing watching the sunset and the torii gates. On the way home, I had a few fried oysters and a beer, and it was a rare experience to watch the sun slowly sink.

Get a direct understanding of the scene of the atomic bomb explosion at that time. 140,000 people's lives were devoured by the war. No war! I wish the world peace! Everyone is happy! There are many tourists visiting here, especially foreigners. It is the place with the most tourists in Hiroshima.

The big five-story tower (the Keep) is actually a museum. It's all about samurai history and how the city was run way back when. The exhibits are easy to follow and they’ve got some legit-looking old armor and swords. The Absolute Best Bit: Hands-On Fun!My favorite part is the interactive floor on the way up! This is where you can live out your samurai dreams. You can try on a crazy helmet or a piece of armor, but the real highlight is getting to lift a replica katana! It's surprisingly heavy, and it gives you a whole new respect for the samurai. Great picture moment, too!And once you get to the top, the views are amazing. You get a perfect look at the modern city a beautiful mix of the old history below and the new skyline all around. Totally worth the small entrance fee!

On the first floor, there is an experience corner with merchandise sales and slides. The cranes that have been collected since the museum opened are piled up, and it looks fantastic from the outside. There is also a tram running right in front of you. You can also lie down and relax at the Hiroshima Hill booth.

The Miyajima Torii in Japan is the Torii of Itsukushima Shrine. It is a national important cultural property. It is about 16.6m high and weighs about 60 tons. The cypress roof is 24.2m long. The main column has a circumference of 9.9m and is made of natural nanmu. The current Torii was rebuilt in 1875, and it is the eighth generation since the Heian period. The upper beam is hollow, and it is filled with fist-sized stones totaling 7 tons, so it can stand in the ocean current without falling.

The aquarium is very beautiful, and I really enjoyed seeing the different animals. However, there were some things that concerned me.There was an area with starfish where children were allowed to touch and pick them up. Unfortunately, I saw some children trying to pull them apart or handle them roughly, which was very upsetting to watch. There was no staff member supervising that area at the time, so there was no one to stop them or explain how to handle the animals properly.I also felt that some of the tanks were quite small, and some of the animals appeared stressed or uncomfortable.Overall, it is a beautiful aquarium, but I think the animal welfare and supervision in certain areas could be improved.
