Dazhao Temple

Ih Juu Temple in downtown Hohhot was built in the 8th year of the Ming Emperor Wanli (1580) by Altan Khan, the leader of the Mongolian Tümed. The temple belongs to the Gelug (or Yellow) School of Tibetan Buddhism. Priceless cultural relics not to be missed on a visit to Ih Juu Temple include a silver statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni, the dragon columns and the colorful wall murals. The pure silver statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni in the temple's main hall weighs 1,500kg. Immediately in front of the Buddha Sakyamuni are two golden dragons entwined around the columns, aptly named the Dragon Columns. Because the murals were painted with mineral-based colors, the colors remain bright and vibrant even today. The murals' content is mostly classical stories from Buddhist scripture.Hohhot · 2.3 km from downtown

295 reviews
Saishang Old Street is a historic street in the old town area of Hohhot featuring Ming and Qing architectural styles, with a history dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. After Dazhao Temple was built, a market gradually formed on the west side in front of the temple, marking the origin of the old street. The current streetscape has undergone comprehensive renovation, preserving its traditional style by restoring it to its original appearance. Brick-and-wood buildings with blue bricks and gray tiles line both sides of the street, while flying eaves, brick carvings, and traditional shop signs showcase the streetscape of the former Guihua City. This area has been a hub for commercial activities since the Ming and Qing dynasties, where furs, dairy products, tea, and silk were traded between the grasslands and the Central Plains. Today, you can find antiques, calligraphy and paintings, jade, coins, leather paintings, leather goods, sheep-horn combs, and ethnic-style accessories along the street, and some shops also showcase traditional handicrafts such as wool felt pyrography. The district retains a certain ethnic cultural character, with the architecture, shops, and handicrafts collectively forming the overall character of the old street. At night, lanterns and shop lights illuminate the street, and the blue-brick and gray-tiled alleys present a view different from that of the daytime.Hohhot · 2.6 km from downtown

Dazhao Temple and Xilitu Temple have many similarities. You can see some people taking commercial photos, and there are many exquisite Tibetan Buddhist statues and halls. There are also some halls on both sides. For those who are not familiar with it, it is good to learn about Tibetan Buddhism. But don't have too high expectations.

It's a quiet and comfortable place to stroll around, not too crowded, but it has a strong Tibetan Buddhist atmosphere. There are many lamas chanting sutras, and you can also burn incense and make offerings. The surrounding area is also lively, with plenty of food options.

I drove there myself; it's about an hour from Hohhot, a 20-minute drive along a winding mountain road with breathtaking scenery. There are five stops along the way, and the whole trip takes about half a day, including visits to the Misty Forest and the Sea of Clouds viewing platform. The shuttle bus to the Hongqi Trail is also quite convenient.

On August 31st, I took advantage of the weekend for a two-day, one-night special forces tour of Hohhot. It happened to rain, so I'm especially grateful to the two train drivers who drove my son and me to the door to prevent us from getting soaked. Two weeks in advance was perfect. It's a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings now, so you can rent an electric scooter and combine the train ride with walking.

Laoniu Bay is a place where the Yellow River and the Great Wall embrace each other on the Loess Plateau. The emerald green river meanders gently through the canyon, drawing a near-perfect Taiji Bay; the Ming Great Wall winds down the mountain ridge, quietly meeting the Yellow River at the cliff top. Stone castles, cave dwellings, and knife-cut cliffs intertwine with the gentle shimmering water, creating a scene that is both desolate and beautiful, majestic yet tranquil, like a landscape painting unfolding for thousands of years.

It's a fantastic place to visit, fun, and visually appealing. My partner and I, both adults, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Having always drunk milk, yogurt, and various dairy products, we'd never experienced the production process before. Inside the venue, you can get up close and personal with the factory production process, and there are also educational games and informational activities. Besides, it's a great place to take photos and check out the exhibits! We saw many autographed items from celebrities and athletes who have partnered with Yili, which we'd never seen before, haha – a truly novel experience! The souvenirs inside were also quite nice and creative; I couldn't find them anywhere else on Taobao. They also have lunch options inside, so the price-performance ratio is decent. Overall, I think it's absolutely fantastic and a must-see tourist attraction in Hohhot!

It's on par with the National Museum of China. If you like the National Museum, you definitely should visit. It has many well-preserved treasures and gold artifacts. The restaurant on the first floor is reasonably priced, but the sign is blocked; be sure to ask a staff member for directions. They serve excellent Inner Mongolian specialties! 👍🏻

It's close to Jokhang Temple, the scenery is very good, the overall environment is good, the price is reasonable, and the service at each stall is very warm, polite and thoughtful. There are 3 cute lambs on the right hand side of the travel photography booth just 50 meters after entering the old street. I took out my mobile phone to take a photo of the lambs eating grass, but was scolded by the female boss. She said that I couldn't take photos if I didn't travel photography. Her words were very unpleasant, which immediately affected my mood for traveling. I was particularly upset. If you can't take photos, don't put them on the road. Alas~ It affects the overall image of the old street too much.

It's definitely worth going. The ticket price is very reasonable, the dances are fantastic, and the lighting is amazing. Maybe not many people know about this great place yet. The indoor show starts at 7 pm and the outdoor show starts at 8 pm, both of which are excellent. They have strong storylines, the timing is great, and there's also a silver ticket promotion, which is very interesting. Of course, there are also performances during the day, but they're not as spectacular as the night show. I highly recommend going at night.
