Mutianyu Great Wall

The Mutianyu Great Wall is nestled among the Yanshan mountain ranges in Huairou, Beijing. It is one of the best-preserved and most picturesque sections of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, renowned as "the finest segment of the ten-thousand-li Great Wall." Its construction traces back to the Northern Qi Dynasty's wall, with General Xu Da overseeing its reconstruction on the Northern Qi ruins during the early Ming Dynasty. The Mutianyu Pass was established in 1404 (the 2nd year of the Yongle reign), and further renovations were conducted under Tan Lun and Qi Jiguang during the Longqing era. The brick-and-stone walls and watchtowers seen today are largely Ming-era structures. Along the Ming Great Wall defense line, this section connects Juyong Pass to the west and Gubeikou to the east, serving as a vital military stronghold guarding the capital since ancient times. This section of the Great Wall has distinctive architectural features: the Zhengguan platform uniquely clusters three watchtowers together, with its gate unusually positioned on the eastern side rather than centrally—a rare design in Great Wall construction. Unlike most sections fortified only on the outer side, its crenellations line both flanks, reflecting strategic considerations for dual-front defense. Between the eastern vantage point at Dajiao Tower and Zhengguan platform, watchtowers stand densely within just a few hundred meters. From Dajiao Tower's summit, the wall snakes along mountain ridges amid verdant peaks, offering panoramic views and prime photography spots—a location featured in the film If You Are the One 2. This area has over 90% forest coverage on its mountains. In spring and summer, lush greenery fills the view; in late fall, red leaves blanket the hills; and in winter, snow drapes the landscape in silver—each season offers unique scenery. You can take a cable car or ropeway uphill, then switch to an open slide through the forest for a fun and effortless descent. Compared to other open sections of the Great Wall in Beijing, this area sees fewer crowds, making it ideal for a half-day visit. Walk leisurely between watchtowers and look back from different vantage points to capture varied perspectives of the wall and surrounding mountains.China · Beijing

Construction of the resort began in 1703 and took 89 years to complete, spanning the reigns of the Qing emperors Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong. This was the second political center apart from Beijing during the Qing dynasty. The mountain resort is divided into four major areas. On the south side are the palace and lake areas, and on the north side are the mountain and grassland areas. The palace and lake areas house the essence of the mountain resort. The lake area contains many examples of architecture from China's Jiangnan region just south of the Yangtze River. These are a result of the love the emperors Kangxi and Qianlong had for the Jiangnan scenery.China · Chengde

Shanhaiguan, also known as the first pass under heaven, is located in the northeast of Qinhuangdao. The Shanhaiguan pass was built in the Ming dynasty, leaning against the Yanshan mountains to the north and facing the Bohai sea to the south. It is a complete defensive system and an important military fortress in ancient times. The terms "inside the pass" and "outside the pass" commonly used in ancient times were demarcated by Shanhaiguan. Shanhaiguan is one of the important passes in the eastern section of the Ming Great Wall, echoing Jiayuguan in the western section as the head and tail of the wall. It is honored as the "first pass under heaven". The perimeter of Shanhaiguan pass is approx. 4 km, connected to the Great Wall. The Ming dynasty city walls within the ancient town are well-preserved, with most main streets and alleys retaining their original appearance, making the town more elegant and quaint. The most striking feature is Zhen Dong tower on the east gate of the pass, also known as the "first pass under heaven tower". The tower stands tall on the Great Wall, commanding a panoramic view. Climbing the tower offers a bird's-eye view of Shanhaiguan and the scenery outside the pass. Surrounding Zhenyuan tower stand structures like Jingbian tower, Linlü tower, Muying tower, Weiyuan hall, the urn-shaped defense system, Dongluo city, and the Great Wall museum. The layout of these ruins offers insights into ancient Chinese city defense architecture. Afterwards, stroll into the old town to sample local snacks while experiencing Shanhaiguan's distinctive customs. Shanhaiguan is not only a military fortress with a long history, but also a picturesque tourist and summer resort with pleasant climate. The attraction features over 90 developed historical sites, with the Great Wall as the main thread, including several scenic areas such as "Laolongtou", "Meng Jiangnu temple", "Jiaoshan", "Longevity mountain", "Yansai lake", and "Wang family compound". These attractions are conveniently located close to each other with good transportation, allowing for an easy sequential visit.Qinhuangdao · 90.9 km from Jianchang

Aranya · Qinhuangdao is a seaside community, and its name signifies tranquility and a return to one's true self. The core attractions of this seaside community are its cultural buildings constructed along the coast. It brings together various cultural spaces, including a library, auditorium, art museum, and art center, where the architecture creates a unique dialogue with the ocean, beach, and natural light. Among them, the library facing the sea, the minimalist pure white auditorium, the art museum hidden beneath the sand dunes, and the art center with its circular courtyard each offer unique features, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Beyond the architecture, public spaces like the coastline and beach are also worth exploring. The community's cultural venues host year-round theater, music, and literary performances and exhibitions, weaving an artistic atmosphere into daily seaside life. Dalian Laohutan Ocean Park is located on the southern coast of Dalian, nestled between mountains and sea with a winding shoreline. This marine-themed park primarily showcases ocean animals and performances while offering coastal scenery. Its five venues each have highlights: the polar zone houses beluga whales, polar bears and penguins in simulated polar environments, with beluga and dolphin shows as main attractions; the happy theater features humorous sea lion and walrus performances that delight both adults and children; the marine mammal pavilion, shaped like a pirate ship, hosts playful seals and sea lions; while the coral aquarium displays colorful reef creatures and dreamlike jellyfish to recreate an underwater world. If you want to visit the bird forest to see birds, you can take the cross-sea aerial cableway to overlook the scenery of tiger beach bay and the southern coast from above, then arrive at this large semi-natural artificial birdcage. Blue peacocks, red-crowned cranes, egrets, parrots, and other birds freely engage in activities among the trees. Strolling through it feels like walking into a valley bird park, where you can occasionally come face-to-face with the birds up close. The park also features sea sightseeing boats, a 4D theater, a root carving art museum, and amusement facilities like the family-friendly Jurassic happy island. The tiger sculpture group is also a popular photo spot. When tired, you can relax on the beach, feel the sea breeze and watch seagulls circling overhead. A small reminder: animal shows at each venue have limited time slots. Check the daily schedule upon entry to plan your visit order and avoid missing desired performances.China · Dalian

National Maritime Museum of China

The National Maritime Museum of China is located on the shore of the Bohai Sea in Tianjin Binhai New Area. It is a comprehensive maritime museum integrating collection, exhibition, research, and education, often referred to as the "Forbidden City on the sea." The white streamlined main building stretches along the coast, resembling a giant ship docked by the shore from afar. With the vast sea outside, the architecture itself is a noteworthy landmark worth stopping by. The museum's exhibitions revolve around the theme of "the ocean and humanity," with each of the six exhibition areas and dozen-plus halls offering unique highlights. In the "Ocean today" hall, a 9 m-long whale shark specimen is astonishing in scale, while a plastinated giant squid specimen stretches its slender tentacles. Together with rare specimens like a pregnant shark and thousands of other marine life specimens, they showcase the diversity of ocean life with striking visual impact. "Ancient oceans" traces Earth's origins, connecting billions of years of evolution through trilobite and ichthyosaur fossils. "Age of dinosaurs" recreates Mesozoic landscapes of sea, land, and air, where ichthyosaur and pterosaur fossils alongside dinosaur models are particularly popular with children. "Chinese maritime civilization" and "From sails to stars" chronicle China's journey from ancient navigation to modern scientific expeditions. The "Ocean and astronomy" hall with its starry dome and the interactive experience zone demonstrating the power of marine disasters are also crowd favorites in the museum. The museum's content density is remarkably high, and a thorough visit requires at least half a day. It is recommended to follow the order from the first floor upward, starting with ancient fossils before moving to modern marine exhibits. Those interested in paleontology, marine life, or maritime history will all find something to enjoy.China · Tianjin

Really great experience - but in the end the leaving times were too late for us as we were worried about crowds. We messaged the provider on we chat and they sent us over the tickets no problem. In the end we probably paid a bit extra doing it this way but was worth it for us. Would say if you want a very good experience just buy individual tickets and make your way there via DiDi app or mini program on alipay( Chinese uber) the bus just leaves too late to get there at a good time and avoid the crowds.

Suitable for family walks, outings, and leisurely strolls. It was a bit hot during August, the summer peak season; the evenings were cool, but the days were still very sunny and hot. The scenery was beautiful, but it was very crowded, as it's a famous tourist attraction.

This grassland is highly recommended. We visited in autumn, and although it wasn't as golden, it's still worth a second visit. The grassland in spring is much greener, stretching as far as the eye can see like an oasis. While the birch forests are beautiful from afar, up close they're covered in horse manure—black and polluting, making the grassland smell and the experience unpleasant for tourists, completely masking the earthy aroma. We suggest that the horse owners pick up the manure to give tourists a better impression. Overall, it's a very beautiful environment and worth visiting. Be prepared for the cold; it gets just as cold, or even colder, at night.

I came here because of its reputation, and the environment is indeed very nice. It's quite close to the beach and has parking. There are many European-style buildings inside, some are restaurants, some are creative shops, some are photography studios, and there are also banks, theaters, art galleries, etc. If you just want to see the scenery, a stroll around would take one or two hours, depending heavily on the weather; good sunshine makes for great photos. The creative shops are also worth browsing. It's a very relaxing place, but I didn't have time to visit anything else. Judging from the overall design, the night view should be amazing. If you want to take a small boat, just let them know in advance, otherwise the driver won't point out the camera location, and the photos won't be good.

The city gate tower is a very representative historical site, and the view from the top is excellent. Many buildings within the city walls have been restored, and it gets very crowded during peak season. Taking photos only in the outer square is free, but it's recommended to buy tickets online in advance to climb the city gate tower.

If we're talking about the most famous attraction in Changli County, Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, it has to be the Aranya Community. Originally a real estate development project intended as a community, it has now transformed into a popular tourist destination. This is because the unique atmosphere created by the cultural heritage and neighborly relations within the Aranya Community makes both residents and visitors feel comfortable. Due to the success of the Aranya project, it's now undoubtedly Changli's must-visit spot for social media check-ins, and it's definitely worth a visit.

I went during the National Day holiday this year, and there were definitely more activities and more people than when I went in winter. It wasn't as deserted as I expected. I'll definitely go when it's more crowded next time, it'll be so lively! Haha.

A fantastic ocean park! The polar bears were adorable, and the orca show was breathtaking. Walking through the underwater tunnel felt like being in the deep sea, with schools of fish swirling overhead. The venue was clean, the layout was well-designed, and it was incredibly photogenic—a truly unforgettable blue dream journey.
