Oriental Village

7.3
4.3/5
401 reviews
Oriental Village is located at Burau Bay on the west coast of Langkawi, backed by Gunung Mat Cincang, and reachable by a 15-min drive from Langkawi Airport. It's not a traditional village but a resort area nestled between mountains and sea: dozens of Malay and oriental-style buildings with varied designs surround a lake, housing shops, restaurants, and recreational activities. The SkyCab cable car to the summit of Gunung Mat Cincang also departs from here. The movie "Anna and the King," starring Chow Yun-fat, was filmed in Langkawi. For most travelers, the top priority here is taking the cable car up the mountain. The cable car ascends nearly 700 m from the base, with one section at a near 45-degree incline. The six-person cabins slowly climb above the rainforest, offering views of the Seven Wells Waterfall and the western coastline during the approx. 15-min one-way ride. At the mountaintop station, two circular observation decks provide panoramic island views—on clear days, even distant Thai islands may be visible. Temperatures here are a few degrees cooler than below, so those sensitive to cold may want a light jacket. From the station, a sloped elevator or walking path leads to the sky bridge, a 100-m-long curved steel suspension bridge spanning two peaks at over 600 m above sea level. On sunny days, the dense forest below is clearly visible; when fog rolls in, the mist creates a sensation of walking among clouds. During strong winds, the bridge sways slightly—those with acrophobia should proceed with caution. Beyond the cable car, indoor attractions like the SkyDome dome theater, SkyRex motion experience, and 6D cinema offer respite from midday heat. Tired visitors can dine at lakeside restaurants or browse handicrafts and traditional clothing in shops. Note that the cable car and sky bridge are weather-dependent and may close during heavy wind or rain—check forecasts before visiting. Queues can be long during peak hours, so allocate sufficient time.Langkawi · 14.3 km from downtown

Langkawi SkyBridge

7.2
4.7/5
1.2k reviews
Langkawi SkyBridge is suspended atop the mountains of Langkawi's main island in Malaysia. This 100-m-long curved pedestrian bridge sits over 600 m above sea level. Its structure is unique among similar bridges: the entire curved span is supported by a single tower fixed to the mountainside, with multiple steel cables extending downward from the tower to suspend the deck midair between two peaks, creating the sensation of crossing a deep valley. During construction, all components were prefabricated below and airlifted by helicopter for assembly—this engineering ingenuity alone makes it noteworthy. The name "SkyBridge" comes from its perpetual suspension among mountain clouds. The bridge's intentional curve shifts perspectives as you walk, with a glass-paneled midsection offering direct views of the valley and primal rainforest below. From the railings, you can see the green ridges of ancient mountains, the vast Andaman Sea, and scattered islands. Triangular viewing platforms at both ends provide ideal spots for photos. To access the bridge, take the cable car to the summit station, then transfer to the SkyGlide inclined elevator or hike a steep 15-min trail. Mountain weather changes rapidly—fog can obscure views, so visit on clear days for optimal panoramas.Langkawi · 15.8 km from downtown

It is one of the most beautiful zoos I have ever visited. It is home to a fairly large number of animal species. You can feed various animals (under the supervision of zoo staff, of course)—this was the part I enjoyed the most, especially when I got to feed different species of parrots. It was also very entertaining to watch the zookeeper feed the otters, which are incredibly playful. Also, at the entrance, there was a very charming animal with large eyes, but I have forgotten the name of its species. The staff as usual was very friendly and helpful and you could pet but gently this small animal under their guidance.
