Lake Ohrid's surface is at an altitude of nearly 700 m, and it is surrounded by high mountains. The lake is deep and clear, like a giant sapphire embedded among the mountains. The deepest part of the lake basin is nearly 300 m, and on clear days, the water transparency can reach about 20 m. Overlooking from the hillsides or slowly cruising across the lake, one is often met with an endless expanse of blue, serene and pure. This attraction is not only beautiful but also possesses an extremely rich and unique ecosystem. The lake is home to hundreds of endemic species of flora and fauna, many of which are rarely seen elsewhere in the world, making this lake an important natural treasure trove for studying ancient freshwater ecosystems. Visiting the lakeside in summer, you can swim and play in the water at the quiet bay beaches, or take a boat cruise along the shore to enjoy the magnificent scenery where mountains and water meet.Ohrid · 12.2 km from downtown

The ancient city is situated at Car Samoil and was built in the 2nd century BC. The city features numerous ancient buildings, including medieval churches, monasteries, frescoes, castles, and towers. It once had 365 churches (over 30 remain today), allowing people to visit a different church for worship every day, which earned it the name "Jerusalem of the Balkans." A 900-year-old towering Cinar tree also bears witness to the history of the ancient city. In 1980, Ohrid was added to the World Heritage List.Ohrid · 1.5 km from downtown

Church of St. John at Kaneo is a medieval Orthodox church in Ohrid, built in the 13th century, situated on a high cliff by Lake Ohrid. The church is nestled between the mountain and the lake, offering expansive views where the water and distant mountains reflect each other, creating a serene and beautiful view. The compact building blends into the lakeshore environment and is one of the most recognizable views here. The church features Byzantine architecture with some Armenian influences. The main structure is built of stone and brick, with a rectangular plan and a central octagonal dome. The exterior walls are intricately decorated, and the brick and stone patterns around the windows are layered. The interior retains some medieval frescoes, mainly located in the dome and altar areas, which hold artistic and historical value. After subsequent renovations, the building has gradually been restored to its original appearance. Standing around the church, you can enjoy the scenery of the lakeshore, cliffs, and ancient architecture complementing each other, and experience the unique historical atmosphere of Ohrid.Ohrid · 2.8 km from downtown

The old town of Ohrid is located on the seaside. The whole old town is built along the highlands and against the mountain. It looks very layered from a distance. There are many paths in the old town, and all kinds of shops are opened on both sides. It is really worth a walk in the old town to feel the different seaside style.

"Sophia" means "wisdom" in Greek. After the church was built, it quickly became the religious, political and cultural center of Kievan Rus.
