Funes Valley is a valley in the Dolomites known for its idyllic scenery. The entire valley is dominated by peaks of grayish-white rock, with meadows, coniferous forests, and scattered villages spreading out along the terrain. The horizon is always framed by rugged, spectacular ridges, showcasing a unique mountain landscape. The valley is dotted with many iconic views. A white-spired chapel complements the peaks behind it, creating a classic postcard composition. Another Baroque-style chapel stands alone on a grassy slope, blending into the surrounding natural environment. Country paths connect different views, with beautiful scenery along the way. The scenery here varies with the seasons. In spring and summer, the vegetation is lush, and the peaks and meadows complement each other. In fall, the trees turn warm colors, with forests painted in layers of hues. In winter, it is covered in white snow, revealing a tranquil and pure Alpine valley atmosphere.VillnoB · 7.3 km from Ortisei

Alpe di Siusi

Alpe di Siusiis a vast alpine meadow stretching across a plateau. Unlike the sharp, jagged peaks common in the Dolomites, the terrain here is gentle and open, with traditional wooden huts and herds of cattle scattered among the rolling green waves of grass. To the west are uniquely shaped peaks, while to the east stand towering, grayish-white rock walls. The magnificent panorama, surrounded by mountains, creates a unique landscape. Trails crisscross the plateau, featuring both gentle loop routes and paths that lead deep into the heart of the pastures, with wooden huts along the way serving local specialty cheeses and wine. On sunny days, cloud shadows sweep across the meadows, making for a pleasant scene. Traditional alpine grazing customs have long been preserved here. In early summer, wildflowers bloom, and in the fall, the traditional scene of herders driving cattle down the mountain showcases a rich pastoral charm. In the early morning, mist drifts over the grassy slopes, while in the evening, the sunset dyes the rock walls in warm colors. This place is suitable for all seasons: spring and summer are perfect for hiking and cycling, while in winter, it transforms into a vast ski area, showcasing a rich and diverse mountain landscape.Castelrotto · 5.6 km from Ortisei
Seceda

Seceda

5.4
Seceda stands at a high altitude of approx. 2,500m, surrounded by vast natural mountain scenery. Extending upward from the valley, the scenery along the way gradually transitions from woodlands to open alpine meadows and exposed rocky ridges, showcasing a rich, layered mountain view. What makes this peak particularly striking is its unique, saw-toothed ridge: on one side, gently rolling alpine meadows, and on the other, near-vertical dolomite cliffs. Iconic rock towers line the ridge, outlining a highly recognizable silhouette that has become a famous scenic spot. Standing at the summit and looking out, you can take in the surrounding mountains with an incredibly expansive view. This place is suitable for all seasons. In summer, the mountain is crisscrossed with trails, and walking along the ridge allows for close-up views of the magnificent peaks. In winter, the mountain integrates into a vast ski network, with slopes winding down from the summit, connecting grassy slopes and forests to offer a rich and diverse outdoor experience.Ortisei · 4.7 km from downtown

Dolomites

Dolomites are located in the southern foothills of the Alps and are renowned for their unique dolomite landscape. Unlike other mountain ranges in the Alps, the mountains here are primarily composed of dolomite, with vertical fractures in the rock forming jagged ridges and steep cliffs. At sunrise and sunset, the dolomite reflects warm hues ranging from pink to deep red. This light phenomenon is known as alpenglow, and it is one of the natural phenomena of the Dolomites. Multiple iconic landscapes are distributed along the mountain range: the jagged ridge of Seceda pierces the sky, with alpine meadows spreading out at its feet; the three massive rock peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo rise abruptly, forming the iconic skyline of the Dolomites. Summer is the primary season for hiking, with numerous trails crossing alpine meadows and pine forests, dotted with family-run mountain huts along the way for rest and dining. In winter, the Dolomites transform into a ski destination, with ski slopes connecting multiple valleys. The entire region blends Italian and Austrian culture, with architectural styles featuring characteristics of both.Rocca Pietore · 22.3 km from Ortisei

Chiesa di Santa Maddalena

Chiesa di Santa Maddalena

4.5
Chiesa di Santa Maddalena is one of the most breathtaking photography spots in the Dolomites, standing quietly on a lush green hill against the backdrop of majestic Dolomite peaks, looking just like a postcard. This church has a long history, with a late Gothic exterior featuring simple and elegant spires and eaves. The interior is decorated in Baroque style, with a gorgeous single-aisle asymmetrical ribbed vault and lifelike ceiling frescoes. The main altar enshrines a portrait of Saint Mary Magdalene, surrounded by statues of saints such as Saint Peter and John the Baptist, creating a serene and sacred atmosphere. In summer, wildflowers bloom; in fall, the forests turn golden; and in winter, the landscape is snow-capped. The walking paths around the church are gentle and easy, and it takes about 30 minutes to walk to the observation deck. I originally wanted to see the sunrise over Jinshan Mountain, but I didn't expect there to be too much traffic. It was already 8 o'clock when I arrived, and the sunset was gone when I parked the car... I still ran up to see it before leaving. 🅿️ There are not many places to go, so you must go early. It is less than 2 kilometers to the popular check-in spot, which takes about 30 minutes to walk. It is a 3-minute drive from the Lonely Church. Drones are not allowed to fly at the Lonely Church. I saw it from a distance after dark and it was quite beautiful.
