Huaniao islandis a small island in the waters at the northern end of the Zhoushan Archipelago. It is not connected by bridges, and access is entirely by ferry. The island was named for the chrysanthemums and daffodils that once covered it, and for its shape, which resembles a seabird with wings spread ready to fly. Blue and white fishermen's houses are layered along the hillsides. Exploring the island is mainly done on foot or by sightseeing bus. The pace is slow, making it perfect for staying a while to experience island life. The island's iconic landmark is the Northwest of Flower and Bird Island, Shengsi County, Zhoushan City, built in 1870, and it is an attraction that many people travel to the island specifically to see. Huaniao island has the chance to feature a glowing sea known as blue tears, where noctiluca scintillans create a faint blue shimmer with the waves. Nan'ao Beach and the Beiao Pier area are common viewing spots, though seeing them depends on the weather.Shengsi · 26.2 km from downtown

Liujingtan is found on the eastern end of the island. It faces the reef cliffs of the East China Sea. Along the coast you will find a regular plank road. This road does not have a lot of vegetation stretching along the side of it. Along the cliff you will encounter a white lighthouse with a bit of island flare. If you take the cliff path all the way down to where it meets the sea, that would be a great spot to enjoy a nice view of the water while the sun rises. If you walk along the sea, you will be able to spot a section of the asphalt road that leads to the scenic spot.Shengsi · 7.3 km from downtown

Shengshan Uninhabited Village Scenic Spot is located in the northeastern part of Shengsi Island, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. This former fishing village was gradually abandoned due to declining fishery resources and inconvenient transportation. The original two-story houses are scattered across the hillside facing the sea, now completely covered by lush green ivy, creating a unique "fairy-tale" view. This remarkable scene has attracted numerous photography enthusiasts and visitors, making it a popular online check-in spot. Most buildings in the village showcase 1970s-1980s architectural styles, preserving strong characteristics of island dwellings. Though uninhabited, the breathtaking blend of natural and cultural views continues to amaze visitors.Shengsi · 35.7 km from downtown

Huanglong Island is shaped like an open sycamore tree. The main bays are the South and North Ports. The hills are connected in a winding way. The highest point is the Shiwu Hilltop in the middle, which is 223.5 meters above sea level and ranks second in the Shengsi Archipelago. Huanglong has two islands, the big and the small, facing each other from east to west, separated by only a 500-meter waterway. The Big Huanglong Island is 12.6 kilometers southeast of Caiyuan Town and 4.5 kilometers from the coast of Sijiaoshan Island. In ancient times, it was named Shenshui Mountain, Yuanbao Mountain, Shidao Mountain and Huanglong Mountain. The Big Huanglong Island is the seat of the Huanglong Township Government of Shengsi County. It is named because of its majestic mountains, yellow soil, and the yellow dragon-like sea from a distance. The Small Huanglong Island covers an area of 0.89 square kilometers and is located on the west side of the Big Huanglong Island. The peaks and rocks on the island are stacked, like a dragon. When the weather is clear in summer, it looks like smoke from a distance, so the scene is called "Huanglong spitting smoke". The scenery is pretty good, but the taxis on the island are too expensive, costing 30 to 59 yuan for a short distance. I recommend self-driving, putting your luggage directly in the car and then driving on the boat.

Head to Gouqi Island in the East China Sea and encounter a crystal-clear blue ocean. Arrive by boat, the sea breeze carrying a salty scent that washes away all worries. Stroll along Dawang Beach, where soft golden sand accompanies the clear waves, making it a delightful experience to wade and collect seashells. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the mountains and sea, dotted with buoys from the sea ranches and fishing boats leisurely navigating the water. There are also deserted villages enveloped in greenery, their stone houses hidden among vines, like a real-life version of The Wizard of Oz. From sunrise to sunset, watch the sunset paint the sea red, and in the slow-paced island life, fully enjoy the mountains, the sea, and the evening breeze.

A taxi ride from Shengshan to the abandoned village costs 30 yuan. There are many steps leading downhill, and the abandoned houses and paths are overgrown with weeds. In summer, it's best to wear long pants to avoid mosquito bites. The journey there is easy, but climbing back up the steps is a bit tiring; older people should proceed with caution. The abandoned houses are scattered across the mountainside in a pleasing, irregular pattern, covered in lush greenery, and are quite extensive.

The scenery is beautiful, but the wind is also very strong. It basically involves walking around several cliff faces and viewing them from different angles. After reaching the innermost cliff face, you have to backtrack. It takes about an hour to explore the whole area. There's a stairway at the entrance where you can take some trendy photos.

Both are worth seeing. Liujingtan has many photo spots; it's great for taking pictures. I successfully completed the entire Heshangtao route, which was a challenge for someone like me who is slightly afraid of heights, but the scenery was indeed very beautiful.

The scenery is beautiful, and the journey is a good length. I recommend going down the west route and coming up the east route, taking a half-hour break at a cafe along the way. It's not tiring at all. Some people who climbed up the west route looked exhausted and were complaining.

Huanglong Island is quite fun. There happened to be a hiking meeting these two days. Although the weather was bad, there were still many people. They were the points on the map. Almost no one stopped, only the beautiful house and the bareback mountain. The beautiful house should be very beautiful if the weather is good, because I brought my mother with me. Otherwise, Huanglong Island is very suitable for cycling. One day is enough to ride along the sea.

During the off-season, there is no direct public transportation. You either have to take a taxi or walk. I walked there, which was a long way. The scenery along the way wasn't particularly amazing, and the seawater was murky, indicating serious pollution. But I was the only person in the scenic area, so it felt pretty good to have the place to myself.
