Yangjiatang Village is hidden among the mountains of Sandu Township, Songyang County. The entire village faces west, situated on a steep and narrow hillside. More than 20 Qing Dynasty residences with timber-earth structures are arranged up the slope, with a vertical drop of several m. From a distance, it looks like a massive building facade covering the hillside, with the rammed earth walls glowing warm gold in the sunlight. At its center is the Song Ancestral Hall, first built during the Qianlong era. Old buildings like the Dide School and the rice-pounding workshop are arranged around it, with layers of horse-head walls facing each other. The beams, pillars, doors, windows, and corbels and brackets are covered with wood carvings of auspicious patterns. The rammed earth walls of every household are inscribed with sentences from "Zhu Zi's Family Maxims," the "Classic of Filial Piety," and the Song family precepts, interspersed with murals. Although weathered after hundreds of years, one can still read the family tradition of valuing culture and education here. From afternoon to evening, the setting sun shines directly on the layered rammed earth walls, covering the entire village in a warm golden hue. Walking up the stone steps from the old camphor tree at the village entrance, if you turn back as you walk, you can see different village facades from different heights.Songyang · 6.5 km from downtown

Chenjiapu Village is hidden in the mountains of Lishui, Songyang. It is situated on a steep hillside, surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing a valley on one. Old houses built with rammed earth, timber, and stone are layered up the slope following the terrain, forming a typical cliff-dwelling terraced layout. From a distance, it looks like it grew out of the cliff. When the weather is clear, the view is expansive, allowing you to overlook the valley below, and the distant Songyang county seat is faintly visible. In the early morning, clouds and mist often rise from the valley floor, with houses appearing and disappearing in the sea of clouds, a scene that many photography enthusiasts wait specifically to capture. The Avant-Garde Bookstore, Pingmin Bookstore, renovated from an old cultural auditorium, is often called the bookstore on the cliff by tourists and is a must-visit spot after entering the village. The Bao Ancestral Hall, ancient trees, and old residences and paths preserve the original appearance of the clan village.Songyang · 8.6 km from downtown

Songyang Ming and Qing Street is located in Xiping Town, the county seat. The ancient street is more than 300 meters long. Both sides of the street are two-story buildings with wooden structures. It is an old building left in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and has a strong historical and cultural atmosphere. It is said that since the Tang Dynasty, a street in Ming and Qing Dynasties has been Songyang Commercial and Trade Zone, known as Wuli Long Street. Despite the vicissitudes of life and the vicissitudes of life, the ancient street is still the same, open to the north and south, surrounded by the morning and evening here and the trivial life of people, day after day. On both sides of the street, the mud-wood structure buildings are winding away, just like the contemporary "Qingming Riverside Map". The ancient block of Ming and Qing Dynasties is an area with a long history and profound cultural accumulation in Songyang County. It retains rich Ming and Qing architectural styles and agricultural cultural relics. These residential shops are all Ming and Qing styles, and the rows are eroded by historical wind and rain. The mottled but charming neighborhood is a very unique and attractive cultural landscape, and it is a rare historical and cultural street in the province.Songyang · 697m from downtown

Songzhuang Village is hidden deep within the folds of the mountains in Songyang, Lishui. A stream winds through the village in an S-shape, and two stone arch bridges, built with creek stones without mortar, span the water. They have withstood the elements and remain stable, now serving as the village's landmark. The water under the bridges is shallow and clear, and occasionally, elderly residents can be seen leading cattle or carrying loads as they walk up the steps. With a click of the shutter, you capture a scene of a traditional Jiangnan village. Along both banks of the stream, old houses with mud walls and gray tiles are scattered against the mountainside, with the Ye Ancestral Hall, Song Ancestral Hall, stilt houses, and ancient post roads interspersed among them. The surrounding area is filled with continuous bamboo forests, and there are stretches of peach orchards in the mountains. Villagers still use traditional earthen stoves for cooking and go to the stream to wash clothes and vegetables in their daily lives. Walking into this place, time clearly slows down.Songyang · 9.1 km from downtown

Ancient Weir Home of Painting

7.5
4.6/5
7k reviews
The Ancient Weir Home of Painting is located on the banks of the Oujiang River in Lishui, Zhejiang. It consists of two major areas facing each other across the river: one side is the "Ancient Weir" where Yantou Village is located, and the other is the "Home of Painting" where Dagangtou Town is situated. The two sides are connected by cruise boats, with the journey taking about 10 minutes. Enjoying the scenic views of the Oujiang River from the boat is itself a highlight of this itinerary. On one side of "Ancient Weir" stands the Tongji Weir, the protagonist built during the Southern Dynasties and operating for over 1,500 years: the arched dam lies across the Songyin Stream, diverting water into canals that traverse the Bihu Plain, still irrigating tens of thousands of acres of fertile farmland today. Together with the Tongji Sluice, the Three-Cave Stone Culvert, and the Ye Channel, it forms a complete ancient water conservancy system. Among them, the Three-Cave Stone Culvert allows the canal and mountain stream to flow separately at different levels, vividly dubbed the ancient "overwater interchange." Stone inscriptions from various dynasties, including the "Tongji Weir Regulations" established by Fan Chengda during the Southern Song Dynasty when he served as the prefect of Chuzhou, still stand beside the weir. Within Yantou Village, the camphor trees planted to stabilize the dam have grown into clusters of thousand-year-old ancient camphors. Walking along the cobblestone country path, the Wenchang Pavilion from the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, ancient streets, pavilions, and celadon kiln sites are scattered throughout. The "painting village" on the opposite bank has a distinct character: Around the 1980s, artists from various regions gathered in Dagangtou to sketch by the river, gradually forming an oil painting community known as the "Lishui Barbizon." Today, the old riverside street in the town is lined with galleries and art sketching bases. On clear days, you can often see rows of students painting by the Oujiang River with their easels. It's recommended to explore both riverbanks during your visit: take a boat across the river to see the ancient weir, then return to the painting village's old street. The sunset over the Oujiang River is a signature scene here, with occasional white sails gliding by—a sight many photography enthusiasts wait patiently to capture.Lishui · 30.3 km from Songyang

The forest area is 4335 mu, which is a standard mountain village. The village completed road hardening, sewage treatment, construction of biogas digesters, and beautification of the environment through village renovation in 2009. The village takes tea as its leading industry. The beauty of Youtian Village is worth watching slowly and carefully. Standing on the viewing platform, overlooking the Youtian Village in the middle of the mountain, a green tile and yellow wall is exposed among the lush trees. The house is built according to the mountain, and the orientation is different.Songyang · 7.6 km from downtown

The village is small and quite rustic, with initial signs of commercialization. It's worth a visit for photos, especially at sunset when the scattered ancient villages are accompanied by wisps of smoke rising from their chimneys – a truly beautiful sight. A word of caution: the village's pebbles are difficult to walk on, so wear appropriate shoes. Also, there's a 500-meter-long winding mountain road in and out of the village with extremely high oncoming traffic, making it quite challenging to drive. Traveling during the off-season is strongly recommended.

After visiting Yangjiatang Village, on the way back to the hotel, we made a special trip to Chenjiapu Village, known as "a utopia atop the clouds, an ancient village on a cliff." There's a Librairie Avant-Garde bookstore there, which is also quite nice.

Songzhuang Village is relatively small. Its most distinctive feature is that there is a small stream in the village with an ancient stone arch bridge over the stream. As it is not very famous, there are not many tourists in the village. There are also very few residents in the village, with only a few elderly people. It is very quiet and not much developed, so it is quite pristine.

The well-protected forest area has gurgling water and streams flowing down the mountain road. There are many waterfalls along the way, and the shady side is also cool. According to the introduction of the scenic area, there are many protected animals and plants, but of course I didn't encounter any animals on this trip.

To get to Ancient Weir, you need to take a boat from Huaxiang. Tongji Ancient Weir is a picturesque place with beautiful mountains and clear waters, and many ancient trees, including one over 1500 years old. You can have lunch at a privately-run restaurant in the mountains. If you're driving, you can also go there. Huaxiang is like an ancient town where you can stroll around and have a coffee. ☕️

⛰️A 600-year-old ancient village located about 10 minutes drive up from Yangjiatang. The village is full of aboriginals. The village is very simple and has not been commercialized at all. It is recommended to come here if you like traditional Chinese villages. 🏠There is a "Youtian Huakai" B&B in the village. The B&B is very niche, cost-effective, and the service is quite considerate. The B&B is also equipped with a restaurant and a cafe, which meets my life needs. I have to recommend his coffee and dishes to everyone again. The taste is very authentic! There is no additives in the restaurant outside! 🚗The transportation is also convenient. I drove here this time. It is only a 10-minute drive from Yangjiatang. The mountain road is also relatively wide, and there is no problem for female drivers. There are also parking lots and charging piles in the village. I have to say that this small village is really too humane! BBs who can't drive can choose to take a taxi after arriving in Songyang, which is about 30-40💰. 🌸In general, the scenery of the village is beautiful, but the village is not big. It is a small but beautiful existence. In the village, you can see villagers farming, clouds rolling, smoke curling, and a full atmosphere of life. It perfectly interprets the "countryside" in my heart. If I have time, I will come again, chat with the owner of the homestay, eat with the villagers, experience farming, listen to the cicadas and birds singing... It is a childhood memory and a piece of pure land in my heart!

It's a very small village. The scenery in front of Guoyunshanju is very good. But the study room of Guoyunshanju was closed on the day I went there, so I couldn't buy coffee. Later, I went to visit the small exhibition hall. The children had a lot of fun going up and down the houses. If you are interested, you can walk around the small waterfall further down. It takes about an hour to walk around slowly. Everyone thinks it feels good to walk around. You can take pictures of Chenjiapu Village at the entrance of the village.
