There is an old military dependents' village near Lingdong University of Science and Technology in Nantun District, Taichung City. It attracts people from all over the world to visit every year. Veteran Huang Yongfu, because of boredom in his later years, picked up a paintbrush and used the alleys and streets in the military dependents' village as a natural canvas. All kinds of beautiful rainbow lines and cute animals are painted. Because of the bold colors, cute composition and full of childlike interest, it makes visitors feel like they are in a rainbow world. Therefore, netizens call it "Rainbow Dependents' Village", and Huang Yongfu is affectionately known by people. Known as "Grandpa Rainbow", many photography enthusiasts and young literary and artistic young people will come here to take pictures. The tens of meters long alley at the entrance of the village is a place where "Grandpa Rainbow" paints a lot, and it is also a lively place. Mr. Huang Yongfu's home is in this alley, and it is easy to find, because the gate of his house is covered with notes left by tourists, which are full of words of blessing: "Grandpa Rainbow, your The creation makes ordinary military dependents villages have extraordinary colors", "The painting is so beautiful, please continue to be colorful." From time to time, "Grandpa Rainbow" will go out of the house to take pictures with everyone at the request of tourists. He didn't mind that the tourists were tired, he pushed open the door and visited his old house of more than ten square meters. Although the house was not big, the walls were filled with dozens of cartoon characters and animal shapes, and various kinds of animals were placed on the bed. All kinds of woodcuts, and on the table are all kinds of watercolor pens, brushes and papers. Painting has become a habit of Huang Yongfu's life. He paints every day and will continue to paint.Taichung · 7.6 km from downtown

Gaomei Wetlands

4.8/5
672 reviews
Gaomei Wetlands is located in Taichung. While not large in size, it features diverse habitats including muddy and sandy tidal flats, tidal creeks, and marshes. It is rich in biodiversity, and every winter, a large number of migratory birds fly south here to escape the cold, which is one of the scenic highlights of Gaomei Wetlands. When you arrive at Gaomei Wetlands, the first thing you see is two rows of massive wind turbines, their huge blades turning in the wind—a spectacular sight. The meeting of eco-friendly power generation and the wetland view creates an unexpected new beauty: at sunset, these giants stand on the horizon, casting silhouettes reflected on the tidal flats, blending into the sky with its gradient of orange, pink, and purple. You have to visit Gaomei Wetlands to experience this beauty. The water on the mudflats is shallow. Take off your shoes and roll up your pant legs to step into the mud; it doesn't stick to your feet and has no unpleasant odor. Occasionally, some muddy water might splash onto your feet, but you can generally keep your feet clean. In addition to migratory birds, the wetland is home to many fish, crabs, and other creatures. In the "tidal creek area," you can observe the spawning and hatching of migratory fish; the "slow-flow area" allows fish fry to grow, and in the "mudflat area," mudskippers and hermit crabs live in harmony. If you enjoy cycling, why not ride along the Gaomei Bicycle Path from the seawall all the way to the wetlands? Although the path is quite simple, it is relatively flat and easy to ride. Don't be in a hurry to leave after sunset; wait about 30 minutes, and the streetlights along the coastal road next to the wind turbines will start to light up. The wind turbines become the main attraction once again, with dots of yellow light extending beneath them and reflecting on the water—a view that is equally stunning.Taichung · 23.9 km from downtown

Fengjia Night Market, also known as Wenhua Night Market, is located in Xitun District, Taichung City, mainly on Wenhua Road, Fuxing Road, and Fengjia Road. It is the largest and most famous tourist night market in the area. There are many innovative snacks in Fengjia Night Market, such as takoyaki, large intestine wrapped in small intestine, crepes, iced candied haws, lazy shrimp, kumquat lemon juice, and fried noodles and bread, all of which originated here. The consumption of Fengjia Night Market is popular throughout Taiwan with its "small bowl" characteristics. The 40 yuan bento and 50 yuan ramen are very substantial in terms of ingredients and soup. Guan Zhilin's sausage wrapped in small intestine is so popular that even after opening two branches at an intersection, there is still a constant line of people queuing up; Octopus Balls originated from Fengjia Night Market and has won the hearts of locals with its affordable and authentic Japanese snacks; Albert's ice cream is low in fat, sugar, and calories, and its many flavors are unforgettable after a bite; Golden Squid Rice Wraps stuffs stewed rice into the squid, and then fries it in a pan until it changes color, making it a night market delicacy; and Dajia Taro's taro ball mixed ice cream, the taro is just the right softness, the overall sweetness is moderate, and you can even bite into the granular texture of red beans.Taichung · 5.9 km from downtown

The Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area was once one of Taiwan's three largest forestry sites. According to historical records, the mountain was discovered in 1911 and named "Baxianshan" (Eight Immortals) due to its elevation of approximately 2,410 meters. Forestry exploitation began in 1917, and the former sawmill has now been converted into the Baxianshan Forest Recreation Area. The Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area is surrounded by mountains, and from its summit, one can overlook the endless expanse of Yushan, Nenggaoshan, and Qilaishan. Lush forests and abundant birdlife abound within the mountains. The moisture and plants within the forest combine to emit abundant anions and phytoncides, beneficial to human health. For those living in the city, a refreshing breath of nature is in order. Within the park, the Shiwen and Jiabao Rivers converge. These rivers, originating from deep forests, are strewn with rocks and rapids, creating a unique landscape known as "Taiwan's Two Famous Springs." Basianshan's breathtaking scenery is truly captivating, making it an ideal destination for hiking, forest bathing, birdwatching, and a relaxing getaway. In addition to its captivating natural scenery, the amusement park boasts a wealth of attractions. Three forest-bathing trails have been specially designed for this purpose. The "Mengzong Bamboo Forest - Shrine and Elementary School Ruins" route takes visitors to a monument listed as one of Taiwan's Eight Scenic Spots, the ruins of the shrine, and Jinghai Temple, offering glimpses of its former prosperity. Along the way, visitors will find a vast, secluded bamboo forest and giant nanmu trees. The trailhead for Baxianshan is also unique here. The other two trails, "Shiwen Creek - Upstream" and "Downhill Stairs - Dam Area," follow the stream, offering refreshing waterside trails perfect for summer.Taichung · 32.6 km from downtown

Wufeng Linjia Garden is located at the foot of Wufeng Mountain in Taichung City. Built in 1893 (the nineteenth year of Guangxu, Qing Dynasty), the owner is Lin Wenqin, the father of Mr. Lin Xiantang, cultural giant. This garden mansion and the Taipei Banqiao Lin Family Garden are known as two typical examples of Taiwan's old mansion, and it is one of the monuments with traditional Chinese architecture and gardening art. Its area is slightly smaller than that of Taipei Banqiao Lin Family Garden, but its luxury is not inferior to the latter. There are Jingxun Building, Rongjingzhai, Gongbaodi, Second House, Laiyuan, Ancestral Hall, Cemetery and other buildings in the park.Taichung · 8.4 km from downtown

This museum is great for kids from 4 years and older. It's huge and would take all day to explore entirely and you still might not see it all. This was our second time and we found the part which we haven't seen at all last time and spent there hours. The entry price is very cheap and in fact we paid ours with Trip coins.

A place full of innocence The Rainbow Village was created by a retired veteran grandfather when he was bored. Later, it became well-known and became a must-visit attraction in Taichung. Many people think that the transportation here is not very convenient, but I think it is quite convenient. After all, Taichung’s public transportation is free within ten kilometers. The Rainbow Village does not charge admission

Fengjia Night Market should be regarded as the most popular night market in Taichung. Both tourists and locals like to go there to find food, especially on weekends. The night market spans the entire block, and shops on side streets will be cheaper.

Baxianshan National Forest Park is one of the rare tourist attractions with many toilets, so you don’t have to worry about emergency toilet breaks. It takes eight hours to climb the main peak and back. It is recommended that you need to pay attention to your time and have complete mountaineering equipment, especially shoes. For someone who doesn’t often climb mountains, it is very steep. The ascent is okay, but the descent is very difficult. But the fresh air and beautiful scenery make it worth a visit.

In fact, it is quite big. Although only part of it is open now, it is recommended to listen to the tour guide, otherwise you will just walk around and look at the flowers. Most of them have been repaired and rebuilt very well. It is easy to take pictures and rent clothes. It has a very historical and cultural atmosphere.
