Vanalinn

Vanalinn

4.6/5
112 reviews
Vanalinn is a remarkably well-preserved medieval city on the Baltic Sea and was once an important trading port of the Hanseatic League. In the Lower Town, centered around Raekoja plats, the Gothic Old Town Hall stands on one side of the square. St. Olaf's Church, with its spire over 100 m high, the Three Sisters houses with their three connected gables, and the Town Hall Pharmacy, which has records of operation dating back to the early 15th century, are all scattered throughout this area; a few minutes south of the square is St. Nicholas' Church & Museum, which is now a museum of religious art; the late medieval masterpiece "Danse Macabre" housed inside is particularly worth a stop. The higher Toompea Castle area, also known as the Upper Town, features the onion-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin standing side by side, which, together with the ancient castle, outline the skyline. The medieval-style doors, windows, and hanging signs along the streets are details that many people easily miss. The preserved ancient city walls stretch for nearly 2 km, connecting one circular tower after another, offering a different perspective from the top of the wall. Walk to the Kohtuotsa and Patkuli viewing platforms on the edge of Toompea, where red-tiled roofs layer upon layer spread out toward the Baltic Sea.Tallinn · 512m from downtown

This is a seaplane port-themed museum. The exhibits in the museum are arranged in an orderly manner, and there are many wonderful deep-sea designs. Through various information interaction devices, you can experience the virtual reality seaplane port, see submarines, ships, etc. An interactive exhibit tells the story of Tallinn's maritime history. The attraction is the real submarine, which is located to the right of the building. You can go inside, through a box with buttons in 4 different languages, and listen to the life of the underwater travel information personnel. There are many other interesting things to see there too.Tallinn · 1.9 km from downtown

Tallinn not only has a well-preserved ancient city, but also has a 2-kilometer-long ancient city wall. You can also climb the tower and experience first-hand how the moat guards defend against intruders. Part of the city wall, open to the public, connects the towers of Nunna, Sauna and Kuldjala. In the ancient city, you can also look at the city walls. The better viewing points are at the Patkuli Viewpoint (Patkuli) in Toompea and the Tower Square (Tornideväljak) near the railway station.Tallinn · 684m from downtown

Vanalinn, Tallinn’s Old Town, is a beautifully preserved medieval quarter that feels like stepping into a storybook. Cobblestone streets wind past colorful merchant houses, Gothic churches, and hidden courtyards, all encircled by impressive stone walls and towers. Town Hall Square is the lively heart, perfect for soaking in the atmosphere from a cozy café. Climbing Toompea Hill offers panoramic views over red-tiled rooftops and the Baltic Sea. By day, it’s a treasure of history and architecture; by night, lantern-lit streets create a magical charm. Vanalinn is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic medieval ambiance with a vibrant modern twist.

Definitely one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Europe. Definitely worth seeing along with the one in Krakow. There are also some strange gargoyles.

One of the most classic buildings in Estonia Estonia is not big, Tallinn is even smaller. The whole Tallinn gives people a very good feeling. But if you want to talk about any landmarks, this church must have a name It was built in the late 19th century when Tallinn was under the rule of the Russian Empire, so it is a typical Russian style. It is also the largest and tallest Orthodox church in Tallinn.

The Old Town of Tallinn is divided into the Upper Town and the Lower Town. Follow the guide to walk from the Lower Town to the Upper Town, through the streets and alleys. Among them, the St. Catherine's Passage is a relatively distinctive small street. It is narrow and a little steep. The street is a cobblestone path. Through this street, you can reach the highest point of the Old Town of Tallinn to see the scenery of the city.

【View】It is worth seeing the cathedral combined with the entire castle and the castle mound (actually, otherwise it would not work because it is an integral part of the castle). There are organs and baptisteries in the spacious and bright rooms with photos, as well as churches and souvenir shops. Although the cathedral obviously does not claim to be an architectural masterpiece, you can learn many interesting facts and legends with the help of an audio guide (including in Russian).
