Lake Thun

Lake Thun is located on the Bernese Oberland between Thun and Interlaken. The lake is deep blue and crystal clear, and there are not only beautiful views of the Alps around the lake, but also traditional Swiss wooden villages. The summer resort Lake Thun is a local summer family holiday resort. There are many holiday houses along the coast, and you can see many people swimming, playing in the water or cycling and hiking, which is very lively. In addition, it is also popular with sailing enthusiasts for its very good breeze. A boat cruise is the best way to experience Lake Thun, starting from the pier next to Interlaken West Station, roaming west through the narrow waterway, and soon looking back at the magnificent scenery of the Jungfrau region. The cruise ships will stop at several stops along the lake, especially the famous town of Spiez. The end of the cruise is the medieval city of Thun on the west bank of the lake. The whole route takes about 2 hours one way. Cycling around the lake Many Swiss people love to ride bicycles along Lake Thun. Although there are more than 50 kilometers of roads around the lake, it is very exhausting, but the scenery along the way will be very enjoyable. Of course, you can also choose to ride one of the distances, and I believe you will have a good experience. Hiking in the mountains around Lake Thun is a great place to go on foot, and there is something special about the panoramic views of Lake Thun from tops such as the Niederhorn.Sigriswil · 9.3 km from Thun

Town of Spiez is situated on the southern shore of Lake Thun in the Bernese Highlands of Switzerland, nestled in a bay enclosed by two lush, wooded peninsulas. Vineyards on the hillsides stretch down to the lake, a medieval castle stands by the shore, and the Niesen peak on the opposite bank connects to the Bernese Alps. The castle, vineyards, blue lake, and snow-capped mountains framed together create a classic scene in many travelers' photos. The core view here is Spiez Castle and the adjacent Romanesque castle church. The tower was built right by the water and now houses a museum, where the Knight's Hall and period room furnishings tell the history of the local noble families, and the church still preserves Romanesque frescoes. A viewpoint overlooking the entire bay is located by the road above the castle. The hillside vineyards are a rare wine-growing region in the Bernese Highlands, cultivating varieties such as Pinot Noir and Riesling-Sylvaner, and the loop around the bay is easy to walk with expansive views. In summer, you can also swim by the lake, look back at the castle from the water, or take a Lake Thun cruise into the bay for a different perspective.Spiez · 7.8 km from Thun

Spiez Castle is situated in the town of Spiez on the southern shore of Lake Thun. Together with the adjacent castle church, gardens, and vineyards, it forms a medieval architectural complex built by the lake, and its nearly 40m high square main tower remains the town's landmark to this day. Today, the interior is open as a museum, with exhibitions centered around its successive owners. The medieval main tower recreates scenes of knightly tournaments and the lives of troubadours, with 13th-century tournament graffiti still visible on the tower walls. In the Gothic halls, you can see the medieval Bernese commander Bubenberg on horseback, the rooms upstairs display furniture and portraits from the era of the von Erlach family, and the kitchen is set up with scenes of banquet preparations. The adjacent church is a well-preserved early Romanesque building, with early 13th-century Romanesque frescoes painted on the semi-circular apse and the choir dome. The Virgin on the throne, the symbols of the Four Evangelists, and Christ seated on a rainbow remain clearly visible today. Climbing to the top of the tower offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Lake Thun, the mountains on the opposite shore, and the lakeside vineyards.Spiez · 8.1 km from Thun

Hoheweg is the main street of Interlaken and a tree-lined thoroughfare connecting Interlaken Ost and West stations. Interlaken serves as the gateway for sightseeing in the Jungfrau region, where travelers from around the world often stop for a transfer, making it the town's most popular spot, bustling with visitors year-round. Shops, hotels, and restaurants are densely packed along the street, with watch shops and souvenir stores side by side, selling Swiss watches, handmade ceramics, and textiles, featuring patterns that incorporate both rustic elements of the Bernese Highlands and modern design. On one side lies the open lawn known as the Hohematte, originally a monastery garden and now preserved as a public green space; on clear days, you can see the snow-capped peak of the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe from the street at the end of the lawn, and paragliders frequently drift down from the mountains, landing slowly on the grass, often causing passersby to stop and look up. There are plenty of benches and outdoor seating; sitting down to rest when tired and watching the flow of people against the backdrop of the distant snow-capped mountains is a typical scene for visitors here.Interlaken · 19.2 km from Thun

Lake Brienz is located at the northern foot of the Alps, named after the village of Brienz on the northeast side of the lake, while Interlaken lies on its southwest side. Surrounded by steep peaks, a boat tour on Lake Brienz offers breathtaking views of the Alpine scenery. The glacial meltwater carries fine rock flour, giving the entire lake a rare turquoise hue that becomes especially vivid on sunny days. Paired with the steep cliffs and dense forests on both shores, every snapshot looks like a postcard—a highly distinctive hallmark of this lake. Themed cruise with rich experiences Lake Brienz cruise offers various types of experiences. In addition to regular sightseeing cruises, it also provides special themed cruise activities, such as "breakfast cruise", "Indian dinner cruise tour", or "fish and jazz tour" on the cruise ship deck, etc. These are worth experiencing for travelers who love Swiss cuisine. Visit the village of Brienz The village of Brienz on the east shore of the lake is a particularly quiet small town, with fewer visitors during the off-peak season, making it perfect for strolling. You can also take the historic steam train—the Brienz-Rothorn Railway—to reach Rothorn. Giessbach Falls Another destination of the Lake Brienz cruise is the Giessbach Falls, where white waterfalls cascade down from 500 m high into the lake, crashing against rocks with a deafening roar, creating a spectacular sight. Beside the falls stands the Giessbach Hotel, resembling a fairytale castle full of dreamy charm. Cycling and hikes around the lake Lake Brienz is also ideal for cycling around the lake, with well-planned bike routes that allow you to experience the beauty of the lake up close. There are significant elevation changes during the ride, and fog may occur in rainy weather, so it is recommended to choose a suitable route based on your fitness level. Of course, there are also popular hiking trails here, such as walking along the southern shore of Lake Brienz, starting from Bönigen and passing through Iseltwald to reach Giessbach.Iseltwald · 26.1 km from Thun

We first took a train from Interlaken to Spez, and then took a boat from Spez to Thun. Lake Thunersee is known as God's left eye. I personally think it is a little worse than Lake Brienz, God's right eye. Lake Thun is greener, while Brienz is bluer. Of course, Lake Thun is also very beautiful, especially with the buildings and natural scenery on both sides. If you take a boat, it is free with a Swiss pass. However, there are few seats in the second-class cabin, and it is a bit cold to sit outside. It is recommended to wear more clothes. From Thun back to Interlaken, we chose to take the bus, and we can see different beautiful scenery along the way.

The town of Spiez on Lake Thun is an absolutely charming place to visit. It is backed by mountains, faces vineyards and, most magnificently, is crowned by a splendid castle. The Niederhorn mountain range above the lake stretches all the way to the Bernese Alps, creating a magnificent panorama. The mild climate and bright sunshine make it an ideal starting point for exploring the many famous tourist attractions in the Bernese Oberland or Valais. Spiez Castle is a highlight here, as is the castle gardens. From the castle, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the lake and the surrounding area. Likewise, a detour to the castle church is worthwhile. There are many hiking and cycling trails around Spiez. In addition, the neighboring cities of Thun and Interlaken are also great for day trips. Last but not least, the Bernese Oberland is easily accessible from Spiez.

Paragliding in Interlaken is a popular sport among local tourists (especially European tourists). In every corner of Interlaken, looking towards the Jungfraujoch, you can always see paragliders floating in the sky around the Jungfraujoch like dandelions. I personally think paragliding is a game for the brave. Anyway, I don’t dare to play it. I can only watch and envy.

The castle is located in the center of the small town of Spiez, a little close to Lake Thun. It is not big and very spacious, but its size is just right. It does not bring a sense of oppression to the surrounding small houses. The shape is quite elegant and beautiful.

The experience was great. The little car went up and down, and when you got to the top, it was snowing heavily. It looked really cool. The prices at the cafe in the attraction were also reasonable. It was so peaceful to have a cup of coffee while watching the snow fall.

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain destinations, offering an unforgettable experience high in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by magnificent snow-covered peaks, vast glaciers, and breathtaking alpine scenery, the journey to the summit is an adventure itself. The panoramic views from the top are truly mesmerizing, especially on a clear day when the mountains seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon. Walking through the snowy landscape feels like entering a winter wonderland. The impressive Aletsch Glacier adds even more beauty to the experience. Jungfraujoch is a must-visit destination for travelers who love mountains, snow, photography, and extraordinary natural landscapes.

The central building is a bit square and solid, with four small spires and a brick-red roof. Its size reminds people a bit of Snow White. The city walls and other ancillary buildings give a sense of exploration when you visit them.
