Victory Square
Victory Square, also known as Opera Square. The Opera House is the central building of the square. Using the south-facing Opera House as an axis, there are 7 palaces built in the 19th century on the right, all featuring a uniform Baroque architectural style. On the left are old, sturdy, and simple buildings in the Soviet style, constructed after World War II. Historically, the left and right sides are divided into two worlds of wealth and poverty: the palaces on the right were the wealthy district, while the Soviet-style buildings on the left were the commoners' area. Unlike the relatively harmonious and grand skyline of Union Square, Independence Square feels a bit messy and narrow. The design surrounding the main fountain and the small pillars with an animal on top do not look as impactful as the large pillars, and the Orthodox church in a castle is relatively inferior.
