Wuzhen is an ancient Jiangnan town with a long history in the northern suburbs of Tongxiang. The main scenic areas are divided into Xizha and Dongzha. Enjoying the night view of Xizha, riding a rowing boat and watching folk performances are experiences that tourists will not miss. This is also the filming location for "In Time" starring Huang Lei and Rene Liu. Dongzha and Xizha are about 1.5 kilometers apart. If you want to visit both Dongzha and Xizha in one day, you should arrive at Wuzhen early in the morning. You can visit Dongzha first (2-3 hours), and then start visiting Xizha after lunch. We visited Xizha and stayed until night to watch the night view in Xizha. If you have two days to spare, you can consider one day each in Xizha and Dongzha. Highlights of Xizha and Dongzha: You can spend a day wandering on the stone roads in Xizha, trying local snacks such as stinky tofu, Dingsheng cakes, and sister-in-law cakes, or visit old cultural sites such as Zhaoming Academy and the old post office. Of course, you can also take a paddle boat to savor the water town. small town. If time permits, be sure not to miss the Xizha Night Tour. The water alleys, ancient bridges and white walls are illuminated by the lights, which is so beautiful that the sightseeing tour is even more artistic. After admiring the night view, you can go to the bar to have a drink or watch an outdoor old movie or listen to a flower drum show, which is very relaxing. Compared with Xizha, Dongzha is smaller but has a richer atmosphere of life. There are also local people living here, and there are also attractions such as the Shadow Puppet Theater, Sanbaijiu Workshop, Xiuzhen Temple, and Mao Dun's Former Residence. You can also watch performances such as boxing boat (boxing and kicking on the boat) and high pole boat (climbing bamboo poles on the boat), so you can find Richer folk customs and historical connotations. There is a shuttle bus between Dongzha and Xizha. Food and specialty products: Braised mutton and duck in sauce are must-try delicacies in Wuzhen, and the mutton is especially famous. Hanlin Mansion Hotel and Fengyuan Restaurant in Dongzha, Yusheng Restaurant and Sauce Duck Braised Restaurant in Xizha are all popular restaurants. You may also want to try the fried stinky tofu, Dingsheng cake, sister-in-law cake and other special snacks in the streets and alleys. If you want to bring back some specialties, handmade "Sanbaijiu", Tao Xuchang brand bean paste, exquisite wood carvings and bamboo carvings, as well as scarves, tea coasters, umbrellas, wallets and various pictograms made of "blue calico" Pendants, etc. are all good choices, and there are many specialty shops on the street. Accommodation in scenic spots: There are many hotels and inns in Xizha Scenic Area, which are all managed by the government. The fees range from low to high. Staying in the scenic area can make it convenient to visit, and you can better experience the night view of Xizha. There are also many hotels and inns to choose from outside the scenic area, and the prices are cheaper than inside the scenic area.Tongxiang · 15 km from downtown

More refined and tranquil than East Gate, West Gate contains the essence of Wuzhen. Here, elegant old buildings stand next to the water, creating the classic scenery of a Jiangnan water town with its small bridges and canals. The cafes and small shops dotting its streets and lanes are infused with a cultural and artistic sensibility. A night-time cruise of West Gate on a canal boat is highly recommended. Viewing the Jiangnan water scene in lantern light with the soft sound of the oar in the water is especially enchanting and will keep you enthralled.Tongxiang · 15.4 km from downtown

East Gate was the main filming location for the television drama Si Shui Nianhua. Simple ancient residences are spread along the riverbank. Many locals still live here, so it is a great place to experience the local flavor. Stroll the streets, catch a shadow play, and listen to the sounds of flower drums. Experience the atmosphere of life in an ancient town in Jiangnan, the famous region south of the Yangtze River. Experience more of the tranquil life of the water villagers by taking a ride in a traditional covered canal boat after you visit the former home of famous PRC novelist Mao Dun or the tenth-century Taoist temple Xiuzhenguan.Tongxiang · 13.8 km from downtown

Seeing West Gate by night is an entirely different experience from seeing it during the day. Each evening, as the curtains of night descend, the ancient buildings on the riverbank show a new side under the light of multicolored lanterns. The effect of the interchange of old and new makes the experience like entering two different ancient towns simultaneously: one of the motley appearance of days gone by, and the other of modern splendor. The warm lantern light reflects on the water, lending a special beauty to the photographs you take. Floating through the town in a traditional canal boat in the evening is one of the classic experiences of visiting West Gate.Tongxiang · 15.2 km from downtown

This historic post office is located on the west bank of the Xizha River. The brick and tile structure, with its western-style iron gate, has a heavy sense of history about it. Visitors can see many precious exhibits about the postal service. The post office has all kinds of postcards and pictures for sale, which can be stamped and mailed from the post office's postbox for friends and relatives who live far away. Small bridge, flowing water, people Wuzhen retains the charm of Jiangnan in the past. This is also due to the fact that the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the town and crosses the Xishi River, the "mother river" of Wuzhen Xizha. During this period, many tributaries of the harbor and river branched out, and there was this small Ozawa country style with every family facing the water and every household resting on the river. Different from the surging waves of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the small rivers in Wuzhen are beautiful and lovely, like a green ribbon. The liveliness is definitely the Xishi River, where the boats are swaying and chasing the waves, crossing the bridge and crossing the bank. The person on the boat, Wu Nong, spoke softly and smiled at Yan Yan. Many streams converge in the southwest corner to form an open lake, the water is bright and green, and it is named Jade Rang. The weeping willows on the shore are poetically vast and continuous, and you feel like you are in a "cool world" while rafting. The scull is the spirit of the water town. The narrow part of the river in Wuzhen is no more than 3 meters wide and no more than 2 meters deep. The small sculling boat has heavy bones and a shallow draft. The scull is actually a rudder paddle, swaying forward like a fish tail at the stern, and the boat is stable.Tongxiang · 14.8 km from downtown

Wuzhen South Gate andEast Gateare adjacent, forming an area that has not yet been developed into an attraction. The quaint, narrow alleys are lined with old houses and shops with wooden doors, and most of the people living here are locals. The town's old houses, ancient streets, and historic bridges still retain their original appearance, making it a great place for photography enthusiasts to explore. Wuzhen South Gate is usually not included in tour group itineraries and has almost no commercial atmosphere. The architecture here is relatively well-preserved; notable structures include the Zhang Tongsheng Residence brick-carved gate tower and theancient stage, where you can sometimes see local theatrical performances. Residents along the street have opened small shops selling local trinkets, and the steaming local snacks found throughout the streets and alleys are also a highlight.Tongxiang · 13.6 km from downtown

Wuzhen truly embodies the idyllic Jiangnan region of my dreams. Small bridges over flowing water, white walls and black tiles, and cobblestone streets—everywhere you look, you'll find a photo opportunity. The scenic area is well-managed, the streets are clean, restrooms are easy to find, and the staff are very friendly.

I came to the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, but unfortunately it was far more popular than I expected, so I couldn't get any tickets. It was packed with people on Wednesday; are people all that free? Haha! There were free carnival activities and beautiful waterside scenery; the environment was very elegant and green. Some performances were impressive. Not being able to get theater tickets was a regret, but overall I was quite satisfied. There were buses right outside to Suzhou and Shanghai, which was very convenient. I mainly went to the Mu Xin Art Museum because of Eileen Chang. I was deeply captivated by her personality and talent, haha. The audience was very focused and attentive; the atmosphere was great. What a happy day! Too bad there were no theater tickets!

Dongzha retains the original, vibrant atmosphere of old Wuzhen, with its white walls, black tiles, small bridges, and flowing water, creating a quintessential Jiangnan water town ambiance. The scenic area boasts numerous exhibition halls, including Mao Dun's Former Residence, the Hundred Beds Museum, Huiyuan Pawnshop, and the Shadow Puppet Theater, all worth exploring in detail. Traditional folk performances can also be enjoyed. Online ticket purchase and exchange are convenient; simply scan the code to enter the park. The old streets are brimming with local life, offering a wide variety of snacks, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Complementing the style of Xizha, it's a must-visit in Wuzhen and highly recommended.

Wuzhen Village is perfect for a family trip! The idyllic scenery is refreshing and soothing, and the park is kept clean and tidy. There are plenty of fun activities to enjoy, such as the mini train and the pea pod doll experience, which kids will absolutely love, immersing themselves in the joys of rural life. The staff are warm, friendly, and provide attentive service. The park offers complete accommodation and dining options, with fresh ingredients and excellent value for money. The pace of the trip is relaxed, allowing adults to unwind while children run wild. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in the slow pace of rural life. A day trip here is fulfilling and therapeutic, making it an excellent choice for a family vacation. Highly recommended for families with children!

It is worth a careful visit. Mu Xin's life and his artistic ideas can be purchased for three yuan. The temporary exhibition is the heart of Chopin. Don't forget to put on headphones in the corner and listen to the notes that touch your heart.

When you come to Wuzhen, you must visit the post office. Because I live in a homestay, I can walk back and forth on this street many times. I also pass by the post office at different times to get a feel of the style. I personally like the post office during the day, so you can visit it. A collection of oil-operated jackets can help you imagine the scene of people wearing jackets and walking to deliver letters at that time. In addition to the collections you can visit, the post office also sells postcards. The price is not too expensive, you can fill in the address and mail it yourself. In fact, I really like postcards, but I don’t want to send them, because I have almost never received a postcard I sent to myself, which is really embarrassing.

It was my first time riding a rowboat, and the experience was truly amazing. Although the price was a bit high, it was completely worth it. The rowers were all dressed in the same uniform. It was a much more authentic Jiangnan experience than on a machine-powered boat. The line was quite long, and this boat was incredibly popular. I recommend going in the evening to enjoy Wuzhen's vibrant blues scene. The feeling of sunset was truly captivating. It took about half an hour. When I uploaded it, it was still light, but by the time I got on the boat, it was almost dark. Although it was quite busy, sitting on the rowboat gave me a sense of detachment and tranquility. If you're in Wuzhen, instead of spending money on food and drinks, take a rowboat ride.

Although it was developed relatively late, it started at a high level and is very well preserved. The entire development process adhered to the principle of "repairing the old with the old, and renovating the old as it was". There are still people living in the scenic area. They have not been moved away because of tourism development. They still live almost the same way as before. Therefore, Wuzhen is leisurely and authentic, and it is a living ancient town!
