I spent four days in Zhangjiajie and needed to dedicate one of those days to Tianmen mountain. It’s worth seeing, but I do need to caution that there are an insane number of people, so be prepared to wait hours in line to take the lift down. But the natural arch is unique and the views are nice. The winding roads up there are quite something too. Getting There - A quick and easy direct flight from Beijing to Zhangjiajie. Guest houses near the national park are a great place to stay. Peaceful with beautiful surroundings. Attractions - Zhangjiajie National Park and the famous glass bridge are the two main attractions here. You can comfortably spend 2-3 days exploring different parts of the National park. The majestic Avatar mountains are a sight to behold! Hotels - There are many well known hotel brands around the entrance to the National Park. Staying in a well known brand near the Starbucks/KFC is probably a good option as there is virtually nothing near the other entrances. Food & Restaurants - McDonald’s in the National Park, KFC and Starbucks at one entrance… Other than that there is very limited options. Not really any ‘local’ dishes or restaurants to try. Shopping - Vending machines scattered around the park. All of your usual friendly local Snickers and Oreo sellers. Not a shopping trip that’s for sure.
