Luoyang Travel | Longmen Grottoes, a must-see with your own eyes!

Luoyang Travel | Longmen Grottoes, a must-see with your own eyes!

The Longmen Grottoes are the most abundant and largest scale stone carving art in the world. Even after seeing it countless times on TV, witnessing it in person this time still left me deeply shocked! 😲 🐟 Leaping Carp at Longmen It is said that Longmen was carved out during Yu the Great's efforts to control the waters, and the legend of the carp leaping over the dragon's gate took place here. The grottoes began to be carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty under Emperor Xiaowen, flourished during the Tang Dynasty, and ended in the late Qing Dynasty, spanning over 1400 years. 🗞️ A 'Milestone' in Grotto Art The world's unique royal grottoes 👉🏻 The Lu She Na Buddha carved in the image of Empress Wu Zetian, the Guyang Cave excavated for Empress Dowager Feng by Emperor Xiaowen, the Binyang South Cave built by Li Tai for Empress Zhangsun, and so on. The scale is immense 👉🏻 There are currently 2,345 grotto niches and over 110,000 statues. A lot of color painting was used during construction, but most of it has faded now. 🪨 Scenic Area Tour The Longmen Grottoes mainly consist of the West Hill Grottoes, East Hill Grottoes, Xiangshan Temple, and Bai Garden. ✔️ Among them, the central spot is the Grand Lu She Na niche, which is not only the largest in scale at Longmen Grottoes but also the most exquisite group of cliff sculptures. The Lu She Na Buddha statue in Nara's Todai-ji is modeled after this one. ✔️ For photography enthusiasts, the lit-up grottoes at night are truly beautiful! Since the lights are solar-powered, they light up one by one, and if the weather is bad, some lights may not turn on. So the night view captured each day will be different~ 🪘 Touring Tips Many guides suggest entering the park at 4 PM, then after touring the grottoes, taking photos of the night view of the grottoes from the opposite bank of the river. But based on our actual visit, entering at this time doesn't leave time to visit Xiangshan Temple 🥹. So for those who want a thorough tour, consider entering the park a bit earlier. Be prepared to climb stone stairs, so wear sports shoes. Take sun protection and mosquito repellent in the summer. After enjoying the night view, you can take a sightseeing bus back to the exit, 1️⃣0️⃣/person.

There are so many people at night that the flow is directly limited, and many performances are cancelled, and you need to queue up to enter 3Bring a small light, take pictures that are more out of the picture, there are red lights everywhere. 4. The better-looking photo spots all need to be queued up, so you must [be quick and thick-skinned], don't be afraid of being watched when taking pictures, after all, there are not so many audiences in life, don't care about other people's opinions, we just need to get out of the picture. 5. Please note that this is just a very commercialized scenic spot, all are man-made landscapes, equivalent to a photography base but the atmosphere is very strong about this point to be psychologically prepared. 6. Don't be pulled by others on the side of the road to take pictures! Don't rush to pay, let them take a few pictures and see if you can pay, there are many photographers inside who feel like a banquet, several people are pulling people outside, giving the same photographer to take pictures, the movements are very stiff.

Luoyang! —— Henan's 'Millennial Runner-up'

Luoyang! —— Henan's 'Millennial Runner-up'

City History Through Time Project Every province has a standout internet-famous city. Only Henan doesn't have one, while Shandong has Zibo, Shaanxi has Xi'an, Sichuan has Chengdu, Zhejiang has Hangzhou... If everyone in Henan were to choose an internet-famous city, it would undoubtedly be Luoyang! Luoyang has the strongest internet-famous city genes. From Henan Satellite TV's 'Tang Palace Night Banquet', 'Luo Shen Water Ode', 'Longmen Diamond' to the popular TV series 'The Wind Rises in Luoyang'... Luoyang has always been busy. Luoyang is Henan's 'Millennial Runner-up'. It has the most domineering name in the country, also known as 'China', and 'Divine Capital'. Looking across the entire internet, there is no second city with such a resounding name! Although Luoyang's GDP is less than half of the provincial capital Zhengzhou, in terms of fame, it can crush Zhengzhou. Luoyang is known as the 'Ancient Capital of Thirteen Dynasties'! It has been the capital for over 1500 years, with a total of 105 emperors having worked in Luoyang. It's truly a fighter jet among imperial cities! It's not an exaggeration to say that Chinese culture was born in Luoyang. Luoyang is a city chosen by heaven, born with a silver spoon in its mouth. 🌷 Luoyang has three unique treasures: water banquets, peonies, and grottoes. Luoyang's Longmen Grottoes are the pinnacle of Chinese grotto art, with the largest statue of Vairocana Buddha, which is said to have been modeled after Empress Wu Zetian. Wu Zetian even rewarded it, donating her own rouge money. Many friends only know that people in Guangdong love to make soup, but those who love soup even more are from Luoyang in the north. If you say, isn't it just 'Hulatang' (spicy soup)? Then, you're out of touch! The 'soup' we're talking about is the famous 'Luoyang Water Banquet', a grand dish from the Tang Dynasty, a royal identity, a prominent existence! The dishes served at the Luoyang Water Banquet are all soupy, totaling 24 courses! Among them, 'Peony Swallow Dish' is the top card. It is said to be Empress Wu Zetian's favorite. Because of the Luoyang Water Banquet, Luoyang people have their own unique term for eating. They call 'eating' 'drinking soup'. When the warm-hearted people of Luoyang ask you 'Have you had soup?', don't be surprised! It means 'Have you eaten?' How much do Luoyang people love soup? Every street and alley is filled with: tofu soup, meatball soup, beef soup, mutton soup, 'bu fan tang' (non-overturned soup), donkey meat soup... Luoyang is an important birthplace of the '24 Solar Terms'. Among the 'Four Great Inventions', papermaking, the compass, and printing were all invented in Luoyang. Luoyang also gave birth to a host of famous 'historical stories': 'Luoyang Paper is Expensive', 'Fish Leaping Over Dragon Gate', 'Contending for Central Plains', 'Too Happy to Think of Shu', 'Cheng Men Li Xue'... Great literary figures like Sima Guang and Ouyang Xiu were once citizens of Luoyang. In ancient times, Luoyang was a super city in terms of historical culture, as well as a heavyweight in the economy. During the Western Jin Dynasty, the famous story of Shi Chong and Wang Kai's wealth competition took place in Luoyang. Luoyang's spring and autumn prosperity occurred during the Sui and Tang dynasties. After Emperor Yang of Sui opened the Grand Canal, Luoyang became the center of the north-south canal, where goods from the north and south converged, making it the richest place in the world! Some say 'half of China's history was written by Luoyang.' Luoyang has too many labels: peony, Guanlin, Laojun Mountain, White Horse Temple...

Luoyang is a small but cute city to visit for a weekend. With a weekend tour group, on the first day visites the Longmen Grottoes and old town street. The Grottos was a very lovely and amazing walk around, there was so many caves to see and experience, plus the temple is where you can a lovely view from a cross the river of the caves and river. In the afternoon, the old town street was very busy and full of life, there was so many food stalls and shops to choose from, fun walk around, In the evening visit the temple unfortunately wasn't able to go inside as it was too late but the view outside was so pretty. Second day when to the school of Kung Fu and Shaolin temple. Watched the Kung Fu show perform by the students who study, it was amazing, a must see. After, is the walk around of the grounds of the area and visited the Temple, our tour guide had so a lot of interesting and fun fact about the place . Then, it was the cable car. There are two options, I choose the shorter route as I didn't have much time, this one was 20mins going up. At the top there is a small temple and a observation area. Lovely weekend Getaway . #luoyang #Longmengrottes #oldtownstreet #kungfu

Don't Get Crowded! Experience the Amazing Wangwu Mountain

Don't Get Crowded! Experience the Amazing Wangwu Mountain

Want to hike but hate crowds? Join me on a super cool off-the-beaten-path trip! Starting from the Lavande Hotel (Luoyang Railway Station Subway Station Branch), head to the hidden gem of Wangwu Mountain in Jiyuan, which will definitely give you an amazing experience! I always thought Yu Gong Moving Mountains was just a textbook story, but I didn't expect the real Wangwu Mountain to be so shocking! The scenery of Wangwu Mountain is breathtaking, but the climbing process is not easy! It is more than 1,700 meters above sea level. I am in good shape, but it took me about three hours to climb to the top, and in the end, I was so tired that I could only take the cable car down the mountain. Next, I will give you a super-detailed route guide: Depart from Luoyi Ancient City to Wangwu Mountain Scenic Area: You can choose to drive and enjoy the scenery along the way to the scenic area; if you don't want to drive, you can also check local public transportation or choose a convenient online car-hailing service to go to the scenic area. There are two routes for you to choose from after entering the scenic area: [1] Buy tickets at the entrance of the scenic area (it is also very convenient to buy online) → take a sightseeing bus into the mountain → enjoy the unique charm of the Millennium Ginkgo Tree and the Fountain of Youth → start your climbing journey from here, sweating all the way up → step on the Tantan Sacred Road → successfully climb to the top of Tantan → finally, decide whether to take the cable car down the mountain easily or hike down to experience a different kind of scenery depending on your physical strength. Warm reminder: This route is very challenging, but it allows you to fully appreciate the fun of climbing. The higher you go, the cooler and more pleasant it is, and you may even encounter lively and cute monkeys 🐒 [2] Buy tickets at the entrance of the scenic area (online booking is more worry-free) → take a sightseeing bus to start the journey → check in at the Millennium Ginkgo Tree and the Fountain of Youth → if you don't want to climb, take the cable car directly to the top of the mountain → come to the top of Tantan → then decide whether to hike down the mountain to enjoy the scenery, or continue to take the cable car back easily. Tips: This route takes the cable car up the mountain first, and hiking down the mountain is relatively less tiring, which is suitable for friends who are not in good physical condition. If you are traveling with the elderly and children, taking the cable car all the way is also a great choice. I chose the first route. Although the process was "sour and refreshing", the joy and sense of accomplishment at the moment of reaching the top were simply indescribable! I'll tell you quietly that the Millennium Ginkgo Tree is a great place to take pictures! Remember to bring water, tissues and other essential items before departure. If the weather is hot, wear short sleeves inside and take them off when you get hot. After all, climbing is a "physical battle"! Are you ready to depart from Lavande Hotel in Luoyang and start this unique climbing trip to Wangwu Mountain?
