Chen Clan Ancestral Hall in Layuan Village, Yizhang, Hunan

The Chen Min Ancestral Hall was built in the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty into a brick-and-wood structure with two-eaved gable walls, with one opening and three entrances, low to high, implying a step-by-step rise. It is the sacrificial site of Chen Wenzhong (a Qian City and fourth-rank captain who was transferred from Chaling Guard to garrison Bali Fort in the 28th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty to suppress bandits), the founding ancestor of the Chen clan in Layuan, and his wife. The Chen clan has inherited the incense for generations. It is also a place for the Chen clan in Layuan to enhance ethnic unity, strengthen ethnic cohesion, and discuss clan affairs. The four characters [Le Shan Jia Feng] in the first entrance of the ancestral hall explain the noble character of the Chen clan in Layuan, which is [loyalty and kindness to the family, and willingness to do good], and the good customs of [being kind to others and being happy to help others].
