Hardangerfjorden
No. 7 of Best Things to Do in Norway

Hardangerfjorden

6.6
4.3/5
92 reviews
Hardangerfjorden stretches for nearly 180 km, extending from the Atlantic coast south of Bergen deep into the inland hinterland. Unlike many stark fjords, the climate here is mild, and apple and cherry orchards stretch across the hillsides on both banks. During certain seasons, the blooming flowers on the mountains contrast with the remaining snow on the peaks, creating a unique natural view. The views along the fjord are rich and diverse, featuring not only magnificent cascading waterfalls but also numerous waterscapes where visitors can walk through or view from a distance. The surrounding cantilevered viewing platforms and cross-sea bridges provide visitors with expansive vistas. When driving across the bridges or touring by boat, the magnificent scenery of the mountains and waters intertwined on both banks is fully visible. There are many scenic parking spots and trails along the route. Self-drive tours, boat cruises, or kayaking are all common ways to explore. The rich glacier and mountain resources also provide diverse exploration options for outdoor enthusiasts, bringing an unforgettable fjord nature experience to visitors who have traveled from afar.Kvam · 19.2 km from downtown

FONNA Glacier Ski Resort

4.4
In the Jørdal region of Westerland County, Norway, FONNA Glacier Ski Resort offers travelers who are looking for a unique snow and ice experience the possibility of breaking through seasonal restrictions. This ski area built on a glacier has become one of the few destinations where skiing fun can continue in the summer due to its high altitude geographical advantage. The silvery white ice field forms a strong visual contrast with the surrounding rugged mountains. The cable car can enjoy the unique cold landforms of the fjord region as it climbs. Not only does it retain stable snow trails for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, but it also has professional glacier hiking routes. Experienced guides lead tourists through blue ice cracks and moraine landforms. The Folgefon Glacier Exploration Tour is especially suitable for those who want to deeply experience the polar environment. As an ice and snow sports field open all year round, when most ski resorts in the northern hemisphere enter the rest period, FONNA Glacier Ski Resort still echoes the rustling sound of snowboards sliding across ice crystals, creating a unique summer ice and snow scene.Jondal · 25.9 km from Kvam
Fishmarket in Bergen

Fishmarket in Bergen

4.1/5
103 reviews
Fishmarket in Bergen is located on the wharf in the center of Bergen, facing the old town of Bryggen across the harbor. It has long been a trading hub for fishermen, farmers, and citizens. In the past, fishermen from outside the city would row small boats into town to sell their daily catch and row back home the same day. The stalls are stacked with king crab, fresh shrimp, cod, and fresh salmon. You can also find rare ingredients like sea urchin and whale meat. Many stalls allow you to taste before you buy or have food prepared on the spot; boiled shrimp and smoked salmon sandwiches are common ways to enjoy it. The fish market consists of two parts: an open-air stall area by the water and an indoor food hall. The open-air area is open in summer. In addition to seafood stalls, there are also stalls selling fruits, berries, vegetables, and flowers, as well as souvenir shops. After exploring, you can walk to the opposite side to continue your tour of Bryggen.Bergen · 43 km from Kvam

There is the famous Atlantic Ocean Coast Highway here. It is 8.3 kilometers long and was opened to traffic in 1989. It consists of 8 bridges, spanning between small islands and reefs. You can enjoy the natural landscape of each small island along the way. When I visited in early June last year, the road was closed due to the filming of the latest 007 movie. I missed the most magnificent section of the highway and could only take a walk and take photos nearby!

A very spectacular waterfall with a large amount of water. The best feature is that people can pass behind the waterfall without getting wet. The rock structure is very interesting.

The fish resources here are also very rich. Many professional locals mainly buy big fish. The fish market is also very lively. There are still many people buying fresh fish. You can taste the fish here.
