Aershan National Forest Park

Aershan National Forest Park is hidden deep in the forested mountains of the southwestern Greater Khingan Range, known for its volcanic landforms, lakes, and forests. Ancient volcanic eruptions left behind a series of geological views here: craters filled with water to form lakes, lava-blocked river channels creating dammed lakes, vast stone beaches paved with black basalt, and deep canyons carved by fractured lava belts. The Halaha River meanders through the park, with over 80% of its area covered by forests dominated by Daurian larch and birch trees. Shitanglin is a highly recognizable stop: on the black lava beach with almost no soil, larch trees root into rock crevices, and moss and lichens cover the stone surface, like walking into a natural volcanic geological museum. Tuofengling Heavenly Lake requires climbing a flight of stairs along a boardwalk; reaching the summit allows you to overlook this crater lake with a water surface elevation of nearly 1300 m, its overall outline resembling a crouching camel. Arxan Heavenly Lake, on the other hand, has no visible rivers flowing in or out, and its water level shows no obvious fluctuations throughout the year. The Halaha River rushes through the chaotic rocks of Santan Gorge, connecting three deep pools: Woniu Pool, Hushi Pool, and Yuexin Pool. Azalea Lake is named for the Xing'an azaleas that bloom along its shores in mid-to-late May each year; if you catch it while the lingering snow has not yet melted, the red flowers against the white snow offer a unique scene. The Chai River originates in the Grand Canyon area within the park, where black volcanic rocks are scattered across the valley floor; the stream winds through them, and you can walk down the wooden boardwalk in the forest to take a closer look. Seasonally, from mid to late September, birch trees and larches gradually turn golden, creating the most vibrant colors in the attraction. In winter, the unfrozen section of the Halaha River remains ice-free, with frost-covered trees lining its banks and herds of cattle often drinking from the river at dawn. The attractions are distributed along a single road with driving distances between them, making self-drive or private charter tours more convenient. Both Tianchi Lake and Tuofengling Tianchi require climbing steps, so comfortable shoes are recommended. The forest area experiences significant temperature variations between morning and evening, so bringing a jacket is advisable even during summer and fall visits.China · Arxan

Zhalong Ecotourism Area is located over 30 km southeast of Qiqihar city. It is one of the world's largest reed wetlands and the homeland of red-crowned cranes. The red-crowned crane is an endangered bird species, with fewer than 2,000 remaining worldwide. From March to October each year, about 400 red-crowned cranes migrate to Zhalong Wetland near the observation deck for breeding and resting. Here, visitors can admire the graceful figures of these cranes—either soaring in flight or wading through reeds in search of food. Every year, numerous photography enthusiasts come to capture these beautiful scenes. The crane flight training is a signature attraction of the scenic area, with approximately 20-30 red-crowned cranes participating in each session. You'll see a group of red-crowned cranes in the distance begin their takeoff run and flight under the guidance of handlers waving poles, circling briefly in the air before returning to the training area. Since the training area is some distance from the crane observation deck, photography enthusiasts should prepare telephoto lenses to capture spectacular shots. In addition to red-crowned cranes, you can also spot rare birds like Siberian cranes, hooded cranes, white-naped cranes, and demoiselle cranes here. The red-crowned crane flight training lasts only about 2 minutes, so be sure to arrive early. June to September is the best time to observe cranes, as there are more red-crowned cranes during this period. Some red-crowned cranes no longer migrate, so you can still see a few cranes in winter, though rarely. The reserve is a reed wetland with crisscrossing waterways, scattered lakes and marshes, and long wooden boardwalks built over the water. The attraction is quite large, and a full visit usually takes half a day. From the entrance to the crane observation area, there is a long stretch that can be covered by shuttle bus. The round-trip fare is CNY 10 per person. Board directly after ticket inspection and get off in front of the reception hall, then walk 2 km (about 30 mins) to reach the flight training platform. Upon arrival at the attraction, it is advisable to check the flight training schedule first. If pressed for time, you can take electric bikes directly to the terminal station, then walk approx. 20 minutes to the crane release boardwalk to await the flight training. In case of special weather conditions (such as strong winds, rain, high temperatures, or other force majeure factors), the flight training may be less effective or canceled. You can also take a cruise (CNY 50 per person, approx. 20 minutes) through the reed marshes within the attraction, with the terminal point at the crane release boardwalk.China · Qiqihar

Jiuquwan is located at the junction of the Greater Khingan Range and the Inner Mongolia Plateau, in the eastern part of the Ulagai Management District of Xilinguole League, Inner Mongolia, and on the northeast side of Ulagai Lake. It is the intercepted basin of the famous reverse flow river - the Ulagai River. It is named "Jiuquwan" because of its winding and tortuous natural beauty. Here you can find grassland wetlands, winding river sections, unique vegetation such as red willows and flowers, migrating birds, and the normal life of grassland animals. You can wander in the vast blue sea, take a ride on a horse-drawn cart, drink a bowl of milk tea, eat a piece of hand-held meat, feel the boldness and beauty of Mongolian songs and dances, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the grassland. Jiuquwan Attraction also has a profound cultural heritage. In 1202 AD, Genghis Khan and Jamukha's coalition forces fought near Gaoyao Ula Mountain, which is the famous "Battle of Kuoyitian", laying a solid foundation for national unity.China · East Ujimqin Banner

October is the month I look forward to most every year. In October, the maple trees here become colorful, with red, green, and yellow. It is also the time for the Nadam Festival, and you can enjoy the performances of the Ulanmuqi and the Boker, horse racing, and archery competitions. It is a different kind of autumn.

The shuttle bus ticket is a must-buy because the main gate is really far away. It seems like it's essential, especially since you have to walk a long way after getting off the shuttle. There's a speedboat that goes directly there, but it's unnecessary. Although the walk is tiring, the scenery is beautiful, and you can see several red-crowned cranes strolling along the roadside every now and then.

Worth going, beautiful. I can't miss it, haha. The blue sky and white clouds are indeed beautiful, and the desert is beautiful. The service is also good. You can't see such a blue sky and such beautiful scenery in the city. The off-road racing is so exciting that I feel like I'm going to fly to the sky, hahaha. The sand sliding is indeed enough for three or five times, and it's too tiring to climb up haha. Summary: The sand is really fine and the scenery is really beautiful

I went there with my family by car in early August and stayed in Holingol. The scenic area has complete facilities, and the staff are very professional and friendly. The area is very clean, with no litter in the corners, and the restrooms are quite clean. The grassland scenery is best viewed from afar. In my memory, crossing one mountain leads to a sea, or another mountain. On the other side of this mountain is grassland, and the mountain itself is also grassland... What I felt here was more of a sense of vicissitude and vastness. It's a place where you can find a moment of peace and tranquility, and it's worth coming to experience the blue sky and green grass, the coolness and fragrance!
