Zhaji is a little over 20 kilometers from Taohuatan (“Peach Blossom Pool”), and travelers often visit both places in the same trip. Here you will find an ancient village built during the early Tang dynasty in the Hui architectural style, where the clan surnamed Zha has continuously resided. Three creeks join up in this village, and the light walls and dark tiles of the Hui-style buildings line the creek. There are many Hui-style ancestral halls in the village that boast exquisite brick, wood, and stone carvings. You can see many students of portraiture capturing the beauty of this wonderfully scenic area.Jing County · 40.8 km from downtown

Taohuatan

Taohuatan is located approx. 40 km southwest of Jing County.Taohuatan TownIt is famous for Li Bai's poem "Though Taohuatan's water is a thousand feet deep, it's not as deep as Wang Lun's love for me."Taohuatan TownFormerly known as Nanyang town, Taohuatan is actually a section of the Qingyi river. Chen village on the east bank and Wan village on the west bank face each other across the pool. These two ancient Huizhou-style villages may not be exquisite, but they possess a weathered beauty. The old street is paved with irregular cobblestones with mottled walls on both sides. Once you pass through the narrow old street and see the suddenly open, clear pool, it's a delightful surprise. Tour guide Since Taohuatan bus station is on the east bank, visitors usually start their tour of Taohuatan from Chen village. The visitor center of the attraction is located 150 m north of the bus station, where you can enter the attraction. First, you'll see the three-story Taohuatan scenic area's Wenchang Pavilion from the Qing Dynasty. If visiting in March or April, the path is lined with blooming rapeseed flowers. Next, proceed to the No. 1 ancestral hall in China (the Zhai clan ancestral hall). The Zhai family was the predominant last name in the village. This grand three-courtyard hall, originally built during the Ming Dynasty, features precious materials like nanmu wood and white marble, with numerous imperial plaques hanging inside. Walking along the cobblestone old street, you truly enter Chen village after passing the Nanyang town gate tower, with small shops and antique stores lining the road. At the end of the old street stands the two-story Tage'an pavilion, which can be climbed. The nearby "Mengtanxuan" ancient artifacts exhibition hall displays cultural relics like stone tablets and wood carvings. Passing through the archway of Tage'an pavilion, Taohuatan comes into view, with the reflections of Leiyudun mound and Huaixian pavilion shimmering on the opposite shore. The ancient Dongyuan ferry refers to taking a boat ride across the river, where you can observe the book-like layered rocks beneath Leiyudun during the crossing. The small hill of lei yu dun is not high, making it easy to climb to the Huaixian Pavilion on top. From the pavilion, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Taohuatan and Chen village. Then, explore Wan village on the west bank, which is more antiquated than Chen village. Only the gate tower near the dock on the west bank of Taohuatan and the Xingyi Gate retain their original charm. Other attractions in Wan village include the Caihong (Rainbow) Bridge, the ruins of the "Wan family tavern" where Wang Lun allegedly invited Li Bai, and the newly built modern tomb of Wang Lun. Whether visitors are traveling via the Chaji-Taohuatan route or the Taiping Lake-Taohuatan route, it is recommended to return to Taohuatan and stay overnight in the attraction. The evenings and mornings in Taohuatan offer unique charm. In the evening, the Tagan Pavilion is the perfect spot to watch the sunset over Taohuatan to the west. In the morning, the mist over the lake embraces the green mountains and veils the small boats, creating a scene like an ink painting. The chances of seeing morning mist are higher in May and June. Meals and accommodation at Taohuatan Don't worry about meals and accommodation at Taohuatan. Local family-run restaurants or inns in the attraction can provide dining options, featuring rural dishes like free-range chicken, river shrimp, and winter bamboo shoots.Jing County · 33.6 km from downtown

Jingting Mountain

6.4
4.5/5
3.8k reviews
Jingting Mountain is located 5 km north of downtown Xuancheng, with its main peak standing at 317m above sea level. Renowned poets like Xie Tiao and Li Bai composed numerous verses about it, with Li Bai's famous line "We gaze at each other, never tiring—only Jingting Mountain" being particularly celebrated. Visitors come here to trace Li Bai's footsteps, while locals enjoy hiking through its vast tea plantations and bamboo groves that provide fresh air. The panoramic views from the mountaintop overlooking the landscape below are spectacular. Buses stop near the Jingting Mountain East Gate Square (parking lot) on Zhaoting North Road close to Shuiyangjiang Avenue. The square features two memorial archways and a statue of Li Bai. It's still 2 km from here to the official mountain climbing steps, but the scenic views along the way are worth stopping for. Passing by Jingting Lake next to the East Gate Square and heading 200 meters north along the smooth road, you'll see the Twin Pagodas of Guangjiao Temple. The ancient temple no longer exists, leaving only a pair of slightly tilted brick pagodas—landmarks of Jingting Mountain built in the 3rd year of Shaosheng during the Northern Song Dynasty (1096 AD). Continuing northward, the roadside is lined with tea plantations and chestnut trees. Upon reaching Jingting Square, you've arrived at the official starting point for the mountain hike. There are many forks in the trails on Jingting Mountain, each marked with signposts. The section from Jingting Square to Taibai Duzuo Tower features concentrated scenic spots, taking approximately 30–50 minutes to climb. Ascending the stone steps, you'll first encounter the ancient Zhaoting Archway. This stone gateway was originally built during the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the second year of the Xianfeng era (1852 AD) of the Qing Dynasty. Its name may have some connection to Jingting Mountain's original name, Zhaoting Mountain. Further up, lush and charming bamboo groves stand alongside the mountain path. Along the way, you'll see Huanggu Spring (also called Lovesickness Spring), the statue of Princess Yuzhen, and her epitaph. If interested, you can research online beforehand about the romantic legend between Princess Yuzhen and the poet Li Bai. After passing the Green Snow Teahouse, you'll reach a fork in the path. Turn left for Cuiyun Nunnery or right for Taibai Duzuo Pavilion. Both routes converge shortly ahead, with most visitors turning back at Taibai Duzuo Pavilion to descend. For those continuing northwest for about an hour, you'll reach the main peak, Yifeng Peak. Alternatively, heading northeast from Taibai Duzuo Pavilion for an hour leads to Jing Peak, the second-highest summit featuring Wangjiang Pavilion. Nearby, the wooden plank Cloud Bridge offers panoramic views of Xuancheng, farmland, and the Shuiyang River below. No matter which route you take, always descend toward Jingting Mountain's East Gate to exit the attraction. Jingting Mountain usually has few visitors on weekdays but gets crowded during holidays. For those looking to avoid crowds and explore off the beaten path, visiting after a winter snowfall is highly recommended. The entire mountain is enveloped in serene silence—shout into the empty hills, and snow will cascade down from the bamboo leaves, creating a uniquely delightful experience. Below the Ancient Zhaoting Archway, the Ancient Zhaoting Teahouse offers paid dining services. After your meal, enjoy a pot of Jingting Green Snow tea at the open-air tea seats surrounded by bamboo groves for a truly delightful experience.Xuancheng · 5.5 km from downtown

Zhaoji Ancient Town is a gem of Hui-style architecture. Strolling along the bluestone-paved lanes, you'll see staggered gable walls and exquisitely carved ancient houses. Here, there is little commercial noise, and the atmosphere of the original inhabitants' lives is rich. It is not only a specimen of history but also a living village, simple and peaceful.

Peach Blossom Pool truly lives up to its name. The water is crystal clear and emerald green, with the ancient Hui-style village of white walls and black tiles standing beside it. Taking a boat trip on the lake, the scenery is picturesque, evoking the poetic sentiment of Li Bai's poem to Wang Lun. The tranquil and healing landscape is definitely worth a visit.

Mount Jingting owes its fame to Li Bai, and Li Bai came to live here because of Xie Tiao; these histories are told to the world within this mountain. Within the mountain are all the historical stories that have been sung, displays of Shi Tao's Xuanzhou School of painting, Jingting Green Snow Tea, and beautiful green hills. The entire scenic area is not overly commercialized, but full of poetic atmosphere. Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of the entire city—a truly breathtaking sight!

Overall, it's not bad. The architecture itself is airy and transparent, and it should be great for taking photos when the weather is good and there are few people. However, the experience is much worse when it's crowded, and it's difficult to take good pictures. The downside is that the parking lot is too small, and the scenic area's planning and management are inadequate. When I went on October 3rd, it was a rainy day, and there weren't many people, but because the museum is located right next to the national highway, in addition to cars entering the attraction, there were also passing cars. Because there's a waiting time to park inside, the road was very congested, taking almost half an hour to get through. After entering, it took another fifteen minutes to find a parking space. Finally, I parked at a school next to the national highway. Fortunately, there was no parking fee, which was better than other scenic spots. The scenic area should prioritize the construction of a good parking lot.

There are only two slopes, and you still get soaked. The rest are for the elderly. The green mountains and green waters are quite comfortable. I like the elderly. It is comfortable and cool to lie down all the time. The 30-degree temperature feels like 20 degrees on the boat. The water is a bit dirty when you are about to reach the end. There is a free shuttle bus back to the starting point at the end. If you want to change clothes, you still have to park your car at the end and take the shuttle bus to the starting point.

It was a normal hike. I started from Jixi, went to Lantian'ao, and then returned to Jixi, a round trip of about 25 kilometers. It took me 8 hours. The scenery is mostly along the section from the Jixi entrance to Shichating. There's not much to see beyond Shichating. If you're just looking for scenery, you can go to Shichating and hike through Xiaoyao Valley and back. Hiking is a different story. If you're fit, walk more; if you're not, walk less.

The Ningguo section of the "Sichuan-Tibet Highway" in southern Anhui combines the scenic beauty of Guilin in Guangxi, the wonder of the Stone Forest in Yunnan, and the ruggedness of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway (National Highway 318), making it a highly recommended self-driving route in East China. Winding through verdant mountains and clear waters, it connects numerous scenic spots, creating an immersive experience where "the car travels on the road, and the driver is immersed in a painting." In autumn and winter, the fir forests turn red, creating a stunning spectacle that complements the water features, and boat tours are available.

Zhangshan Grand Canyon, also known as the Valley of Great Men, is located in Jixi County. It's dotted with uniquely shaped rocks and emerald pools, and lush with trees! Our group of four parked at the west gate and then took an electric cart to the east gate to enter. The descent took about 3-4 hours, with only the last half hour being an uphill hike – not tiring at all! The water flow is abundant, the scenery is beautiful, and it's definitely worth a visit! 👍

The scenery is beautiful, but the complimentary Shu Road climb is strenuous, so those who are not in good physical condition should not attempt it. The equipment on the downhill slide is a bit old. Actually, the scenery inside and outside the scenic area is quite nice.
