Zhongnan Mountain belongs to a section of the Qinling Mountains, from Mei County in Baoji City to Lantian County in Xi'an City in the east. It consists of scenic spots such as Nanwutai, Cuihuashan and Louguantai. Zhongnanshan is the main truth of Taoism. The people who have read Mr. Jin Yong's martial arts novels must remember the phrase “The end of the Nanshan Mountain, the tomb of the dead, the gods and heroes, and the extinction of the rivers and lakes”. Because of this, Zhongnanshan is even more mysterious. Many martial arts fans are also curious about it. They want to find the tomb of the dead and the Chongyang Palace in the book.Xi'an · 28.9 km from Zhashui
Fenghuang Ancient Town

Fenghuang Ancient Town

Fenghuang Town is located on the southern slope of Qinling Mountains, surrounded by mountains and rivers. The three rivers of Shechuan River, Zao River and Shuidigou River meet here to form a delta. It was called "Sancha River Mouth" in Tang and Song Dynasties, "Shechuan River Township Capital" in Yuan Dynasty, and "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" fifteen years after Chenghua in Ming Dynasty (1479 AD), and was renamed "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" during the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. Phoenix Mouth" was renamed "Phoenix Town" in 1941. The winding streets of Fenghuang Town Old Street and the old houses of Ming and Qing Dynasties scattered on both sides are the distinctive features here. The traditional handmade papermaking and forging here still follow the pattern of the past. More than 60 dwellings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are still well preserved in this ancient town, which is more than 2,000 meters long from east to west. There is a slate-covered creek along the main street, and another perpendicular to it runs through the town, forming a cross-shaped water system. The streets on both sides of the old street are full of pavements, and behind the pavilions are residences. The gate facing the street is generally made of sturdy and wear-resistant walnut wood or lacquered wood, dyed with earth paint, bright, clean and bright; the gate pier is made of stone carving flowers. The wooden houses in Fenghuang Town are relatively small, with exquisite and reasonable design, good rainproof, moisture-proof and fireproof performance. Compared with the traditional northern houses, there are many characteristics of southern houses. Walking on the old street of Fenghuang Town, you will clearly feel the difference between the buildings on the old street and the Guanzhong dwellings. From the appearance, it is more like a Huizhou dwelling, with pink walls and green tiles, decorations on both sides of the ridge, lotus or plum blossoms in the center, and animal ridges or dragon heads on both sides. Many houses are three-in and three-open, and the three yards are raised floor by floor. Such a design is more suitable for excess Shaanxi and facilitates drainage. There are many silk pressing workshops in Fenghuang Town, and the silk fabrics here are made of local pressed silk. The old trade of blacksmiths still remains.Zhashui · 30.4 km from downtown

History background: Shaanxi History Museum is located in the northwest of the Dayan Pagoda in Xi'an. It is one of the landmark attractions of Xi'an. The museum was planned in 1983, started in the summer of 1986, and officially opened on June 20, 1991. It was named Shaanxi History Museum. In 2016, Shaanxi History Museum was selected as "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" by the Chinese Cultural Relics Society and the Chinese Architectural Society. Museum Features: Shaanxi History Museum is a large modern museum, and its completion marks a new milestone in the development of China's museum industry. This museum is a Tang-style building complex with a "central hall and four corner towers". The main and secondary buildings are well-organized, the heights are staggered, and the momentum is solemn. It integrates national traditions, local characteristics and the spirit of the times. The museum covers an area of 65,000 square meters, and houses more than 380,000 cultural relics ranging from simple stone tools used in the initial stage of ancient humans to various artifacts in social life before 1840, covering a time span of more than one million years. The cultural relics are not only numerous and diverse, but also of high quality and wide value. The collections in the museum are dazzling and exquisite. It is an art hall that showcases the history and culture of Shaanxi and ancient Chinese civilization, and is known as the "Pearl of the Ancient Capital, the Treasure House of China." There are many treasures in the museum, including bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, pottery figurines from various dynasties, gold and silver utensils from the Han and Tang dynasties, and murals from Tang tombs. Most of them are treasures from the prosperous periods of the Han and Tang dynasties, and some of them are fine items that are prohibited from leaving the country. Collection treasures: There are three exhibition halls in the center of the museum. The first exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the prehistoric civilization of Lantian ape-man 1.15 million years ago to the Qin Dynasty; the second exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the Han Dynasty and the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties; and the third exhibition hall is mainly cultural relics from the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Each exhibition hall has its own treasure. There are special exhibition halls on the east and west sides of the central hall. On the west side, there is a "Special Exhibition of Tang Dynasty Treasures (Treasure Hall, Cultural Relics Unearthed in Hejiacun)", where many fine gold and silver wares from the heyday of the Tang Dynasty were transferred to be exhibited. On the east side, there is a "Treasures of Tang Dynasty Murals Exhibition", which exhibits a number of authentic Tang Dynasty tomb murals. The tripod The tripod is placed in the first exhibition hall at the entrance of the museum, and it can be said to be the treasure of the first exhibition hall. The replica is placed here, and the original is kept in the warehouse. Inscription on the outer wall: The inscription "All under heaven is the king's land; all the people are the king's subjects" reflects the land ownership system in the Western Zhou Dynasty. There are four lines of inscriptions with 28 characters on the inner wall of the Yi Ding. The general meaning is: In early August of a certain year, Wang Jiang took back the land originally given to Shi Lu and gave it to Yi, who then made this tripod to commemorate it. Queen's Seal: One of the treasures worth seeing in the second exhibition hall is the jade seal of the empress of the Han Dynasty, which is displayed separately. The seal is made of Xinjiang Hetian mutton-fat jade and is engraved with a Chihu, symbolizing royal power. Three-color camel figurines carrying music: This world-famous tri-color camel figurine carrying music is located in the third exhibition hall of Shaanxi History Museum. Its overall appearance and color are well preserved. There are seven men sitting on the camel's back, holding different musical instruments in their hands. Among them, the figurine holding the clapboard is listening attentively, as if intoxicated by the wonderful music. The woman in the middle is performing, and the camel opens its mouth wide and looks up to the sky, as if it is also singing with its master. Gold-inlaid animal head agate cup: This cultural relic, located in the special exhibition "Tang Dynasty Relics Special Exhibition", is one of the first 64 national treasures listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage that are never allowed to be exhibited abroad. There are also many other treasures such as black-glazed oil-drip bowls, green-glazed porcelain pots with handles, gilded silver bamboo-joint copper incense burners, gold bowls with mandarin duck and lotus petal patterns, and so on.Xi'an · 61.7 km from Zhashui

Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, also known as the Terracotta Army, is located about 1.5 kilometers east of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and forms part of the extensive necropolis. There were more than a thousand terracotta soldiers unearthed here, each with a different facial expression. Standing before the massive underground army, you will feel the extraordinary might of the Qin Emperor that enabled him to unify six warring states two thousand years ago. The Qin Emperor Ying Zheng began building the mausoleum for himself at the age of 13. Nearly 720000 men and 38 years were required to complete this vast project.Xi'an · 79.4 km from Zhashui

#### Review of the Qin-Chu Ancient Road in Zhongnan Mountain, Zhashui (Historical Perspective) The Qin-Chu Ancient Road in Zhongnan Mountain, Zhashui, is not only a scenic hiking route but also a "living fossil" carrying a rich history. As a section of the historically vital "Yigu Road," connecting the Qin and Chu states, it has witnessed thousands of years of vicissitudes. This ancient road stretches 15 kilometers from Xiaoyukou in Yingpan Town, Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province in the south to Tianduchi in Chang'an Prefecture in the north. It was once a crucial transportation route between the ancient Qin and Chu states. Walking along this ancient post road, one can almost hear the echoes of history and feel the bustling activity of merchants and soldiers. The ancient road not only boasts stunning natural scenery but also preserves many precious cultural relics, such as Zhao Kuangyin's gambling den, Wang Bozi's shop, and the ruins of the Flower Gate Tower. These relics, like pearls scattered in the river of history, string together vivid historical stories, adding a rich cultural atmosphere to the ancient road. Embarking on the ancient Qin-Chu road is not only a journey to conquer mountains and get close to nature, but also a cultural exploration that transcends millennia. Here, you can touch the traces of history, feel the sedimentation of time, and experience the unique charm of "a mountain dividing north and south, a step across a thousand years."

The Shaanxi History Museum is incredibly popular; I tried to book several days in advance but couldn't get a reservation… so I booked a guided tour, which made my trip to Xi'an worthwhile. I saw so many treasures inside, but the most memorable were: 1. The Duoyou Ding: A bronze vessel from the reign of King Li of the Western Zhou Dynasty, with a 278-character inscription cast on its inner wall. My teacher said that the more inscriptions on a bronze vessel, the more valuable it is, and the more helpful it is for modern research into specific periods of ancient history. This elevated the value of the ding to an all-time high. 2. The Sancai Camel Carrying Musicians: A masterpiece of Tang Dynasty Sancai pottery, this camel carries eight small terracotta figures, each with expressive features and holding various musical instruments, depicting a scene of dance and music reflecting the fusion of Han and non-Han cultures during the prosperous Tang Dynasty. It would definitely be considered overloaded on a modern road, haha! 😂 3. The Gold-Inlaid Beast-Head Agate Cup: Listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as one of the first 64 national treasures permanently prohibited from being exhibited abroad. Exquisitely crafted, the cup's body mimics the shape of animal horns, with the front carved into a bull-shaped head, its eyes wide open and piercing. This is a unique piece in China. 4. Gilded Silver Ewer with Dancing Horse and Cup Design: The only artifact that provides concrete evidence of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang's "Dancing Horse Birthday Celebration" ceremony. The dancing horse and cup design on the ewer is clearly defined and features flowing lines. It is said that there is a heartbreaking story behind these dancing horses: During the Tang Dynasty, these meticulously trained court dancing horses would kneel and bow, holding wine cups in their mouths, to offer birthday wishes to the emperor. However, after the An Lushan Rebellion, they were scattered into the military camps of regional warlords and mixed into the army. When the dancing horses heard the drums and horns of the military camp, they thought the performance had begun and began to dance to the beat. The stablemen, terrified, considered this "monster" and whipped them. The dancing horses, mistaking the rhythm for being off, danced even more vigorously. Seeing this, the stablemen whipped them even more, killing them. The dancing horses thus disappeared. Therefore, this treasure is a top-tier national treasure, prohibited from leaving the country, bearing witness to the legend of "Dancing Horses and Cups." The teachers only explained the museum's most prized possessions during this visit, and there were still so many artifacts we didn't have time to see. I look forward to visiting Xi'an again next time.
