When traveling to Phuket with kids, there's no need to squeeze into the crowds at Patong Beach; having fun is what matters most. This route, which strings together a rainforest, an ancient temple, a mountain-and-sea viewpoint, and a cliffside cafe, offers rich scenery and is perfectly suited for family travel. Visit them in order, and you won't have to backtrack.
1️⃣ Three Monkeys Restaurant (P2-7)
We checked out Phuket Old Town in the morning, then came to this popular restaurant nestled in a tropical rainforest on the mountainside. The dining area is divided into indoor and outdoor sections; since the kids were afraid of the heat, we chose to sit inside. The giant monkey rainforest mural at the bar and the geometric wooden entrance are very stylish.
After a hearty lunch, we went outside to sit for a while. We walked across the tiered terraces to the mesh viewing platform, facing the entire expanse of lush green mountains, and were surprised to feel a cool breeze.
💡 The restaurant is an attraction in itself, so allow 2 hours to eat, stroll, and take photos. There's also a jungle zipline nearby; some tables are located right under the zipline, and seeing people fly overhead from time to time added some fun to our meal.
2️⃣ Wat Chalong (P8-12)
Located in Chalong Bay in the southern part of Phuket, the temple houses 108 golden Buddhas and is very popular with worshippers. It's not large, but it's very peaceful. The main areas to visit are the main hall, the pagoda, the original temple site, and the old abbot's hall.
💡 We could have worn local clothing to take photos in the temple, but we gave up because it was too hot. Going early or late will provide a better experience.
3️⃣ Karon Viewpoint (P13)
The highest viewpoint in Phuket, offering a panoramic view of the three crescent-shaped bays of Karon, Kata, and Patong all at once. You can take in the layers of blue sea, mountains, and houses. If you have time, you can stop for 10 mins.
4️⃣ Laem Sai Cup Cafe (P1, 14-18)
There are many popular cafes along the way, but this one is great for kids. After ordering drinks, sit on the wooden seaside terrace, feel the breeze from the Andaman Sea, and watch the waves crash against the rocks.
If you have time to stay until the evening, you might have a chance to end your day with a stunning seaside sunset.
💡 The fruit drinks have a lot of food coloring; the kids' tongues and lips changed color after drinking them, so order with caution.
