What I love most is that the beauty isn't confined to just one spot; it continuously unfolds, making it feel like you're watching a long-form nature documentary through your window. 🎞️🚆 📍 Glacier Express 🇨🇭 Zermatt → St. Moritz ⏱️ Approx. 8 hours 📏 291 km 🌉 291 bridges 🚇 91 tunnels 🏔️ Highest point: Oberalp Pass (2,033 m) 2026 Info: The Summer 2026 schedule runs from May 2 to October 10. 7 Days, 6 Nights in the Swiss Alps: A Comprehensive Guide | Immerse yourself in Swiss autumn—a fairytale valley of snow-capped peaks and colorful forests All footage captured on-site: Lauterbrunnen Valley waterfalls, panoramic views of the Matterhorn, golden larch forests, traditional wooden mountain villages, glacial canyon waterfalls, crystal-clear alpine lakes, vintage mountain sightseeing trains, historic stone churches, and the mist-covered Alps. Every autumn, the Alpine valleys don a vibrant golden coat. Snow-capped peaks stand against the sky, hillsides are painted in warm golden hues by larch trees, waterfalls cascade down cliffs, traditional wooden cabins dot lush green slopes, and ancient stone churches hide within the valleys. Snow-capped mountains, colorful forests, lakes, and waterfalls—experience it all in one trip. This is the unique romance of a Swiss autumn. 📖 Brief Historical Background These Alpine valleys have been home to mountain villages since the Middle Ages. Local ancestors relied on mountain grazing and built numerous wooden dwellings and small stone churches. The Lauterbrunnen Valley is home to dozens of glacial waterfalls; "Lauterbrunnen" literally means "many fountains." Over a century of mountain railway development has connected these valley towns while preserving their traditional architectural style. Wooden cabins, stone houses, and steeple churches have been passed down through generations, creating the picturesque mountain landscape you see today. 🗓 7-Day, 6-Night Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Interlaken → Lauterbrunnen Valley Travel: From Interlaken, take the mountain train to Lauterbrunnen. The train winds through colorful forest valleys, offering photo opportunities along the way. Activities: Explore Lauterbrunnen town, visit the cliff waterfalls and the white steeple church, and hike along the mountain trails to see waterfalls cascading down hundred-meter cliffs, framed by golden autumn leaves and mist-covered cliffs. Dining: Try Alpine specialties like cheese fondue and roasted potatoes, order a local beef stew, and pair it with apple juice. You can order hot chocolate at the town's cafes—it's very comforting in the cool mountain air. Accommodation: Stay in a local wooden guesthouse in Lauterbrunnen. Most are family-run inns where you can see waterfalls and snow-capped mountains from your window, offering a truly immersive atmosphere. Day 2: Hiking in Wengen Travel: Take the mountain train up to Wengen. The town is car-free, so you'll explore entirely on foot. Activities: Stroll along the mountain meadow trails, where vast slopes are woven with yellow and green, and old wooden cabins are scattered throughout. Enjoy distant views of the Jungfrau massif. Hike through the autumn forests to see the colorful trees up close, and visit the observation deck to photograph the snow-capped mountains framed by golden trees. Dining: Try Alpine sausages and cheese platters at a small mountain restaurant for a simple local meal. Accommodation: Continue staying in Lauterbrunnen to avoid the hassle of moving luggage. Day 3: Zermatt, Viewing the Matterhorn Travel: Take the Swiss Federal Railways train to Zermatt. The town prohibits fuel-powered cars, so you'll get around by electric vehicle or on foot. Activities: Visit the Matterhorn viewpoint, where the pyramid-shaped snow peak stands above the golden autumn forests, with larch trees covering the hillsides. Wander through the town streets and admire the traditional wooden architecture. Dining: Try local venison dishes and cheese-baked pasta, and pick up some nut bread at a street-side bakery. Accommodation: Stay in a wooden hotel in Zermatt and enjoy the sunset over the snow-capped peaks in the evening. Day 4: Around Zermatt, Alpine Lake Loop Travel: Take the mountain cable car to the alpine lake area. Activities: Hike around the lake, where the crystal-blue water is surrounded by vast golden larch forests. The lake reflects the snow-capped mountains, just like in the photos. Enjoy an easy loop hike and admire the canyons and streams. Dining: Have a light meal at a mountain view restaurant, then return to town for traditional Swiss cuisine. Accommodation: Stay one more night in Zermatt. Day 5: Travel to Verzasca Valley Travel: Take the train south to Verzasca Valley, home to ancient stone villages. Activities: Explore the ancient stone villages with their slate-roofed houses and stone bridges spanning rushing canyon streams, all surrounded by autumn red leaves. Visit the valley waterfalls and walk along the wooden boardwalks through the colorful forest canyon. Dining: Enjoy southern valley flavors, including Italian-style Swiss cuisine like tomato pasta and stewed meat. Accommodation: Stay in a small stone guesthouse in a valley town for an authentic, rustic experience. Day 6: Strolling in the St. Moritz Lake District Travel: Take the train through the Alps to St. Moritz. Activities: Explore the alpine lakeside, where layers of golden coniferous forests line the shore, and the lake water is clear and green. Visit the old stone church by the lake and the vintage church on the meadow to photograph the panoramic views of the forest and lake. Dining: Visit a high-end cafe to enjoy Swiss desserts and cream cakes. Accommodation: Stay at a lakeside hotel with views, where you can open your window to the autumn scenery of the lake and mountains. Day 7: Leisurely Stroll and Departure Spend the morning strolling slowly through the town streets, shopping for souvenirs like chocolate and handmade cheese. Then, depart by transport. 🏡 Accommodation Tips 1. Prioritize wooden guesthouses in valley towns. It's recommended to book 2–3 months in advance during the peak autumn season, as many family-run inns have limited rooms. 2. Prices in Zermatt and St. Moritz are relatively high; choose valley town guesthouses if you want to save money. 3. Most mountain hotels have excellent heating. Autumn nights are cold, but the rooms are warm and comfortable. 🚞 Travel Tips 1. We highly recommend purchasing the Swiss Travel Pass. Most trains and mountain buses are free, and some cable cars offer discounts, making transfers between valleys very convenient. 2. Many mountain towns are car-free and rely on mountain trains and cable cars. Be sure to check the train schedules, as it gets dark early in autumn—don't miss the last train. 3. Be sure to wear non-slip hiking shoes. Mountain trails have fallen leaves, and some sections can be slippery. 🍲 Local Specialties ✅ Cheese fondue and raclette: Iconic Swiss dishes, very warming in autumn and winter ✅ Alpine grilled sausages and mashed potatoes ✅ Local stewed meat (beef/venison) ✅ Handmade chocolate, nut bread, and hot chocolate drinks ✨ Best time to travel: Golden autumn in September–October, when the forests turn completely yellow, offering the same scenery as in the photos. There is a huge temperature difference between day and night in the mountains; wear a light jacket during the day and a thick fleece or light down jacket in the morning and evening. ✨ Prices: Overall consumption in Switzerland is high. Prepare your credit card in advance, though cash is more convenient for some small mountain shops. ✨ Hiking: You don't need to aim for high intensity; choose gentle scenic trails to enjoy stunning views. Do not enter remote forests alone. ✨ Weather: Mountain weather is changeable, switching between sunny and cloudy. Carry a lightweight raincoat. The moment the snow-capped mountains appear on a sunny day, all the travel effort is worth it.
The Matterhorn is one of the most iconic mountains in the Swiss Alps, renowned for its distinctive pyramid shape and stunning beauty. The surrounding area, particularly Zermatt, provides a charming alpine village experience with a range of outdoor activities. The Gornergrat railway offers spectacular panoramic views of the Matterhorn and the surrounding peaks.
Sobel Phang[Scenery] Very smooth and stunning Zermatt ski resort! Highly recommended, the snow is very comfortable to step on! The equipment is also new, and the cable car is great! [Fun] The surrounding dining and accommodation are very convenient!
137***66From Zermatt GGB to Gornergrat, you need to take a cogwheel train. After using the Swiss pass to get a 50% discount, I paid 57 Swiss francs. The ticket price is for reference only. The ticket price will fluctuate during the off-season and peak season. We went there during the National Day. The starting point is opposite the Zermatt train station. It takes 5 stops to get to Gornergrat by cogwheel train. Gornergrat is the last stop. Due to the high altitude, it is easier to see the Matterhorn. Taking reflection photos in Rotenboden requires higher weather conditions. We waited for two hours before we saw it.
横竖是二温小迪🏔️ Matterhorn Glacier Paradise: Standing Above the Swiss AlpsMatterhorn Glacier Paradise is an unforgettable experience that truly makes you feel on top of Europe. Rising to 3,883 meters, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss, Italian, and French Alps, with the iconic Matterhorn stealing the spotlight. The journey by cable car itself is scenic and smooth, building anticipation with every ascent. Highlights include the Glacier Palace, eternal snow even in summer, and crystal-clear air that feels pure and energizing. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or first-time visitor to Switzerland, this place delivers awe, serenity, and once-in-a-lifetime alpine magic.
Traveltheworld@bdRiffelsee is to see the reflection of the Matterhorn. First, you have to take the cogwheel train to Rotenboden and then walk down. When we went there, the road down was very slippery, and we walked carefully. When we first walked down, we could still see the Matterhorn, but when we reached the lake, the snow-capped mountain disappeared. Then, a little bit of the snow-capped mountain appeared, and then it disappeared completely. I waited for two hours before I took a picture of the reflection. It is recommended to go when the weather is good. You can see the real view on the official website before departure. If it is sunny, you can wait if you can't see it after going up the mountain.
横竖是二温小迪From this viewing platform, you can see the Matterhorn and the town of Zermatt. It is a bit tiring to climb up, especially after a day of fun. I originally wanted to see the golden mountain in the sunset, but the weather on that day was also very changeable. We saw the snow mountain and its reflection at the Matterhorn in the afternoon, but when we got to the viewing platform, we couldn’t see the top of the snow mountain, let alone the golden mountain in the sunset. Fortunately, the scenery was okay. It is recommended to take an electric taxi up.
横竖是二温小迪Beautiful lakeside promenade, both from Saint-Brice to the city center and from the city center to Boudry. The lake and the landscape change frequently depending on the weather and the season. The summer vacation at home was 5 days of yoga at 7 am in Jeunes Rives (city of Neuchâtel), where the setting is spectacular with hundreds of birds flying around and landing on the lake. In short, the lake reminds you of vacation, no matter where you are when traveling in the world. I'd be happy to see him again.
M32***23Based on Trip.com user data, Recommended sightseeing time: 2–4 day(s), allowing you to cover the main attractions while enjoying shopping, dining, and other experiences.
