Visit the Postal Museum with a Taiwanese Uncle｜Experience the Slow Life of That Era

My Taiwanese friend came to Shanghai to play and said this time they didn’t want to visit the popular spots. They wanted to explore places like North Bund, which are more artsy and less crowded. So I arranged a small itinerary for him: took him to the Shanghai Postal Museum for a nostalgic trip🤣 Because in our era, we had to write letters by hand, stick stamps, and drop them in mailboxes. Then we would wait every day for the mail carrier to come. That feeling of eagerly waiting for a letter is really hard to find nowadays🥹 Actually, in the old house areas of Taiwan, there are still mail carriers calling out registered mail names downstairs. Every time they come, the whole alley knows who received mail😂 📬 The Shanghai Postal Museum is a building dating back to the Qing Dynasty. On the second floor exhibition area, you can see the development history of China Post. It also houses the world’s first set of stamps—the Penny Black, and China’s first set of “Large Dragon Stamps,” which are super precious! There are also scale models of horse carriages and train compartments on site, plus a European-style large central courtyard on the first floor, perfect for taking photos and checking in📷 Walking through the exhibition, looking at those stamps, mailboxes, and bicycles, really makes you feel that slowing down life might not be so bad after all. 📍 Location 2nd Floor, No. 395 Tiantong Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai (near North Sichuan Road) 🚇 Transportation Take Metro Line 10 or 12 to Tiantong Road Station, Exit 3, then walk about 300 meters 🕘 Opening Hours Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday 09:00–17:00 (last entry at 16:00) 💡 Tips 1️⃣ Some exterior maintenance is ongoing, so the Baroque clock tower can’t be photographed now😂 2️⃣ Closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, don’t go on those days by mistake 3️⃣ For those filming videos, the elevator descent at the exit is recommended🎥 4️⃣ The horse carriage 🐴 and train compartment 🚆 in the first-floor central hall are also great for photos
