The Han Dynasty Rises, Chang'an Weiyang Palace

Han Chang'an City was the capital of the ancient Western Han Empire of China, established in 202 BC. Its ruins are located on the terrace south of the Wei River in the northwest suburbs of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, bordered by the Qinling Mountains to the south, the Zao River to the west, and the Wei River to the north. Weiyang Palace, as the most important palace in the Western Han Empire's capital, was the center of power of the Han Empire. It is located in the southwest corner of Han Chang'an City and was built in 200 BC. Han Chang'an City and ancient Rome respectively represented the centers of the two great empires of the East and West. Weiyang Palace, as the decision-making and command center for the Han's communication with the Western Regions, witnessed the Han Empire's active pursuit of dialogue and exchange, which led to the creation of the "Silk Road," a cultural route for long-distance human transportation and communication.
