New Town Hall

303 reviews
New Town Hall stands on the north side of Marienplatz. It is a grand Neo-Gothic building, constructed in phases starting from the second half of the 19th century, and it remains the seat of the city government today. The facade facing the square is adorned with niches and statues, featuring Henry the Lion and successive Bavarian monarchs lined up in sequence. You can take an elevator to the top of the central tower, which is topped by a bronze statue of the Munich Child, the city's symbol. From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the square and the red-tiled roofs of the Old Town. The highlight of this building is the Glockenspiel in the middle of the tower. When the dozens of bronze bells play a melody, life-sized figures appear in turns on two levels: the upper level recreates the jousting tournament from the 1568 wedding of William V, with the knight in Bavarian blue and white colors emerging victorious; the lower level performs the Cooper's Dance, commemorating the story of coopers dancing in the streets to encourage people to return after the plague in 1517, and the performance concludes with three crows from the golden rooster at the top of the tower.Munich · 17.5 km from Dachau

English Garden was established in the late 18th century. The landscaping follows the English landscape garden style, without symmetrical flower beds or straight avenues, but instead features open lawns, winding paths, groves, and streams that follow the natural terrain, with minimal signs of artificial intervention. The park has many highlights: in the south, there is a five-story wooden Chinese Tower built in imitation of the pagoda at Kew Gardens in London, a Greek-style circular temple offering views of the park, and a permanent artificial standing wave on the river. Surfers take turns here, which has become a signature sight. The park is divided into north and south sections by a main road. The southern part has open lawns, while the northern part is dominated by woods and meadows, and you can sometimes encounter grazing sheep. The artificial lake and several beer gardens in the park are great places to take a break. In summer, traditional garden parties are held under the Chinese Tower, adding a unique cultural atmosphere to the park.Munich · 16.8 km from Dachau

University of Munich, the full name of Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, referred to as "LMU". The university was founded in 1472 and is one of the universities with a long history and rich cultural atmosphere in Germany. In the early 19th century, in honor of the school's founder, Archduke H. Ludwig and later Maximilian I, the school was renamed Ludovico Maximilians, and later this Latin name was changed to German Ludwig-Maximilians- Universität. Like many other institutions in Europe, LMU has no walls or guards, and visitors can come and go as they please. It's very close to the Arc de Triomphe, and Ludwig Street crosses the Scholl Brothers Square, where you can see the campus's iconic fountain. Walking into the white main teaching building, the quiet atmosphere makes people slow down. There are many old buildings on the campus, as well as facilities such as banks, kindergartens, hospitals, etc., which are integrated with the surrounding neighborhoods.Munich · 16.5 km from Dachau

Church of Our Lady is a local landmark and the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. Construction began in the second half of the 15th century using red brick, and the main structure was completed in approx. 20 years; the tower tops were later replaced with Renaissance-style "onion" domes, modeled after the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which, combined with the plain red brick walls, created a unique and iconic appearance. The approx. 99m high twin towers form an important part of the old city skyline. The interior is a lofty, hall-style space, with rows of stone columns supporting the vaulted ceiling. It displays sculptures, altarpieces, and stained glass windows from the 14th–18th centuries, including the "Assumption of the Virgin" altarpiece by Peter Candid and the tomb of Holy Roman Emperor Louis IV. On the floor at the entrance, there is a black mark, known as the "Devil's Footprint." The south tower is open to visitors. You can take an elevator to the observation deck inside the tower to enjoy panoramic views of the city.Munich · 17.2 km from Dachau

You haven't truly seen Munich until you've stood in Marienplatz and stared up at the breathtaking New Town Hall . The neo-Gothic architecture is overwhelmingly detailed and beautiful, covered in intricate statues and spires. If you time your visit right, you can watch the famous Glockenspiel clock chimes and mechanical figures dance. The square is always packed with high energy, street performers, and travelers, making it the perfect starting point for exploring the city!

The English Garden is the largest green space in the center of Munich, similar to London's Hyde Park and New York's Central Park. The fountains and some European-style palace styles are rare cultural landscapes in the park. However, because it is close to the river, in addition to the wide lawn, some forest landscapes are also preserved. I envy that the city can have such a large oasis. It is really shocking to see it from the Hilton Hotel.

In a beautiful and tidy new district, the University of Munich is definitely worth a stop. I suggest you visit here not because of its long history since its founding in 1472, but because of a sad but inspiring story that happened on this campus during World War II - the White Rose.

I went to see the city view for 30 minutes with only 3 euros for the student fee!!! It looks like it's 13 floors high because it says 13 og, but it wasn't as hard to walk up as I thought and I got there quickly I went around sunset and it was so beautiful that I was completely lost in thought! It's very narrow and there's a barbed wire fence, but it doesn't really interfere with taking pictures or viewing, and it's nice that you can enjoy the view from all four sides with different charms.

The largest church in Munich, both in appearance and interior decoration are majestic. As soon as you enter the church, there are "devil's footprints" on the floor not far from the entrance. Many versions of the legend of the devil stomping on it bring a touch of mystery to the sacred and solemn church.

The Nymphenburg Palace Garden in Germany has a Jiangnan style. After entering, you feel like you are in Jiangnan. But the buildings inside are still very unique and cover a large area. If you come, you can take more than half a day to visit here.

It‘s a really beautiful place, ironic considering all of the ugly things that happened there. It struck me as I was walking in that the columns of trees on either side of me were spread out like angel‘s wings, it‘s an emotional place and you shouldn’t come here if your purely interested in “touristic activities“, it’s a serious place and the history there should be taken very seriously. Go prepared to let your emotions run freely.

Just before entering downtown Munich, I passed Allianz Stadium, where I was not a ball watcher. An old lady Wang who loved Bayern Munich so much hated his back teeth. It was almost evening when we arrived. Visiting the stadium and the Munich Munich Team Museum were the only two choices. We chose to visit the Team Museum. Although I didn't watch the ball, Hawson was a FIFA player and was very emotional about the team. Despite not watching the game, the neighbourhood is still very happy to buy. To appease Lao Wang, he bought his favorite goalkeeper's scarf as a gift of companionship. My fake fan bought a woolen cap because he thought that walking down the street wearing the cap of the local team might be good for the local people.
