Things to do in Jiayin

When it rains heavily, the water turns yellowish-brown. There are two routes for the tour, with a fork at a point where several shops are concentrated. The birch forest route perfectly avoids the crowds and leads directly to the main attractions, but the downside is that there's a section with hundreds of stairs to climb at the end. The other route starts from the forest itself and is less strenuous, but it's very crowded. When I went, the road was under construction, so I had to take a detour.

Driving to Jiayin Dinosaur National Geopark is a must-do. As one of the earliest places in China to discover dinosaur fossils, it boasts a rich historical heritage. The core Shenzhou Dinosaur Museum has a wealth of exhibits, including many complete dinosaur skeletons and various ancient fossils, offering a clear understanding of Cretaceous dinosaurs and providing significant educational value. The Longgushan excavation site preserves original strata and fossil traces, allowing visitors to experience an archaeological site up close. The valley features numerous lifelike giant dinosaur sculptures, and the forest trails offer a refreshing environment, perfect for escaping the summer heat. There are also interactive fossil digging simulation projects, which are great for children around 10 years old. The park's sightseeing bus saves walking energy, and free parking is available outside the gate for vehicles. The only drawback is the limited outdoor dining options; it's recommended to bring your own drinks and snacks. Overall, the park focuses on fossil education and is a great place to visit while exploring Jiayin, especially recommended for families with children.

From Qiqihar to Heihe, we took the national highway and crossed the Lesser Khingan Mountains. It was so beautiful, and the air quality was good. The speed limit was 60-80, and we drove while enjoying the scenery. Except for the fact that there were more cars when approaching Heihe, there were few cars throughout the journey, which was very pleasant. The toilets in the parking areas along the way were also good and relatively modern.

Jiayin Riverside Greenway The entrance to the Riverside Greenway (Lesser Khingan Mountains Forest Trail) is located on the easternmost side of Jiayin Riverside Park. The Riverside Greenway stretches approximately 20 kilometers from Taiping Island in the northwest to the East Lake Scenic Area in the southeast. The route is divided into four sections, each featuring scenic vistas: the Grand River Scenic Area, the Town Park Section, the River Beach and Bay Section, and the Natural Pastoral Section. In 2025, the Jiayin County government renovated the greenway near Riverside Park, resurfacing 1.68 kilometers of pavement, installing over 200 meters of fluorescent trails, and constructing China's first interactive dinosaur-themed running wall. The fluorescent trail is designed with a variety of dinosaur element patterns, which can emit soft fluorescence at night; the dinosaur running wall is actually a large LED screen, which combines the characteristics of Jiayin and shows the scenes of dinosaurs greeting and running; the greenway is also designed with an interactive projection function, so children can interact with the projected images and play games such as playing football and elimination games on the ground. It has become a new place for children to run and play in the evening, adding a beautiful landscape to Jiayin County, the hometown of dinosaurs.

Buying a pass for kids is a good deal; there are fewer people, and they can enjoy all the rides inside.

Black Dragon Pond is very beautiful. It is located at the innermost end of the beautiful Maolangou National Forest Park. It has beautiful scenery, green mountains and clear waters, gurgling streams, and although the waterfall is not magnificent, the trickling stream is also very beautiful. The ecological environment is very good and the air is very fresh.

The scenery here is still great in summer. The riverside square is very lively at night, and there are some places to eat, drink and have fun around it. But it is too cold in winter and you can't go out at night. This square is still very beautiful.

When traveling to the north, in addition to enjoying the forests and snowy plains, you can also visit the hometown of dinosaurs - Jiayin Dragon Bone Mountain. This is where dinosaur fossils were first discovered in China, and the Jiayin Dinosaur National Geopark is a good place to learn about the behemoths that once lived on Chinese soil.
