The Guoqing scenic area is located at the southern foot of Tiantai Mountain, surrounded by five peaks and flanked by two winding streams. It is the birthplace of the Tiantai school, a major Buddhist sect in China, and serves as the ancestral temple for Tiantai Buddhism in Korea, Japan, and around the world. The Guoqing scenic area was constructed in 598 AD during the Sui Dynasty under the supervision of Sima Wang Hong, based on the blueprint personally drawn by Master Zhiyi. The initial temple complex, named "Tiantai Temple," was completed in 601 AD. In 605 AD, Emperor Yang of Sui renamed it "Guoqing Temple" after a prophecy came true, personally inscribing the temple's name in seal script. During the Tang Dynasty, it was renowned as one of the "Four Great Temples of China," alongside Lingyan Temple in Qizhou, Qixia Temple in Runzhou, and Yuquan Temple in Jingzhou. Rebuilt in 851 AD, calligrapher Liu Gongquan wrote the plaque "Great China Guoqing Temple." In 1005 AD, Emperor Zhenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty funded major renovations and renamed it "Jingde Guoqing Temple." In 1130 AD, it was converted to a Chan (Zen) Buddhist temple and became one of the "Five Mountains and Ten Temples" of Chan Buddhism. The current main structures date back to the 1734 renovation during the Qing Dynasty. During the Cultural Revolution, the temple's statues and ritual objects suffered severe damage. In 1973, the State Council allocated significant funds for comprehensive restoration, reopening it to the public. Covering 72,000 square meters with a built-up area of 28,000 square meters, the temple complex features five main axes, comprising over 800 halls and rooms in a grand architectural layout. It is now listed as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.Tiantai County · 39.4 km from Xinchang

The inhabitants of Chongren Ancient Town are mainly descendants of the Qiu clan who were enfeoffed by Song Shenzong. The town preserves ancient houses from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and even as early as the Song Dynasty. There are temples, ancestral halls, ancient theaters, folk houses, archways, pharmacies, shops, ancient bridges, wells, etc. in the town. You will suspect that you have entered a Ming and Qing drama. shooting scene. The gates and doors of the ancient town are tall and tall, with blue bricks and gray tiles, white walls and hard tops, and high walls and deep courtyards. The partitions and doors and windows have fine carvings, and the craftsmanship is exquisite and wonderful. Not only the houses are adjacent, but also the roads are connected; both the perfect combination and the independent chapters. There is an ancient street in the town, Zhijie, which retains some of the commercial atmosphere of the early years. On this ancient post road, there are now some traditional handicraft workshops. If you are a foodie, please remember that there is Chen's Stewed Duck, which appeared in the ancient town during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of 150 years, and the Xiqing tofu skin here has a splendid history of more than 300 years.Shengzhou · 22.6 km from Xinchang

Mount Huangshan is famous for its long history. "You would not want to visit mountains after visiting the Five Sacred Mountains, and you would not want to visit the Five Sacred Mountains after visiting Huangshan." Xu Xiake, a great traveler and geographer of the Ming Dynasty, twice ascended Huangshan to witness its magnificence, exclaiming it as "a wonder in life." Dramatic Pines, grotesque rocks, sea of clouds, and hot springs are known as the “Four Musts” of Huangshan. They are the uncanny workmanship of nature and cannot be missed. In addition, the haze, snow scene, and sunrise are unique landscapes of Huangshan. Each landscape has its unique beauty and makes you feel like you are in a fairyland.China · Huangshan City

Huangling Ancient Village is a typical mountain village, Souvenir by thousands of ancient trees and tens of thousands of acres of terraced fields, creating a idyllic mountain life like a paradise. It has a beautiful natural environment and rich history and culture. It is a famous historical and cultural village in ancient Huizhou. The ancient village of Huangling hangs on the cliff, and the ground is not flat for three feet. For hundreds of years, the villagers have been accustomed to "communicating" with the rugged terrain with a peaceful mentality, painting a picture of "people drying their crops in the sun in autumn". In March, rapeflowers are in full bloom on tens of thousands of acres of terraced fields in Huangling, dotted with pink peach blossoms and snow-white pear blossoms, forming a beautiful ink painting. Here, you can become one with nature and have close contact with the sea of flowers. At the end of March, the second phase of Huangrapeling Gaoling Terraced Fields Flower Sea came online. Due to the large altitude difference, low temperature, and late-maturing rapeseed varieties, the flowering period is relatively late, and the second phase of the flower sea can last until mid-April. Come to Huangling in summer and start a wonderful summer night trip. Take a look at the night view of the ancient village, feel the sunset glow of Huangling, the lights of thousands of houses, walk on the country road with the dancing and circling 100-meter-long dragon, stroll in the quaint streets with a lantern, feel the romance of the magic forest, watch a retro old movie at the entrance of the village, and visit the cool market in the countryside. As soon as the beginning of autumn arrives, the ancient village of Huangling becomes a drying field. Come to the people who dry autumn leaves to admire the red maple leaves, enjoy the autumn leaves drying on the roof, the maple forest is dyed red, experience the folk customs, hand-cranked windmills, pumpkin traps, etc., and feel the nostalgic charm of the people who dry autumn leaves. In winter, every household in Huangling is busy drying and processing traditional local specialties for New Year's goods. The roofs are full of preserved meat customs, "drying" folk customs and "celebrating" the harvest, which means a bumper harvest in the New Year. With the arrival of the Winter Solstice, the Huangling Folk Culture Festival begins and lasts until the Lantern Festival next year. Here, you can listen to operas, visit the market, taste food, and taste the folk customs of the New Year; bask in the warm sun, cook tea around the stove, enjoy the elegant winter things, invite family and friends to take a health-preserving warm soup, and enjoy a winter-limited snow scene. In Huangling, you can enjoy the beautiful rural scenery and experience the modern urban life. You can see the exquisite and simple Huizhou century-old houses as well as the fashion and elegance of star-rated hotels. In Huangling, tourists can not only taste authentic folk snacks such as steamed cakes, Qingming fruit, gray juice fruit, etc., but also participate in the whole process of making folk snacks and handicrafts.China · Wuyuan

Lingyin Feilai Peak Scenic Area is located west of West Lake Scenic Area, including Lingyin Temple andFeilai peakTwo main views.Feilai peakNot large or tall, yet it gathers hundreds of statues of bodhisattvas and eminent monks from different dynasties, creating a beauty of fusion. The Lingyin Temple in the mountains is a famous ancient temple in Hangzhou, bustling with incense offerings. Lingyin Feilai Peak Scenic Area itself is not very large, and you can explore it on foot. After entering the main gate, turn left, and you'll see it in no time.Feilai peak, following the forest trail for less than 5 minutes, you'll see the entrance to Qinglin Cave. It's said that the stone slab in front of the cave was once the sleeping bed of Ji Gong, and lying on it is believed to free one from worldly troubles, attracting many travelers to take a rest here. Heading north, the Yuru Cave houses exquisite statues of the Eighteen Arhats from the Northern Song Dynasty, with additional finely crafted statues of the Six Patriarchs of Zen Buddhism on both sides of the cave's eastern entrance. The Longhong cave ahead is commonly known asGuanyin caveInside, there is a rock crevice known as "a thread of sky." Not everyone can see the light passing through the crevice, so you often see people craning their necks to look up. The cliff outside the cave is covered with stone carvings of Buddha statues. At the lower part, you can see the Song Dynasty carving of "the white horse carrying scriptures." The Ligong Pagoda at the entrance of Longhong Cave is the only remaining Ming Dynasty pagoda in Hangzhou. Following the Cold Spring Stream from here, you can also see the big-bellied Maitreya. Opposite the stone carvings stands the famous Lingyin Temple, which is open to the public free of charge but requires real-name reservation in advance, and is still well worth a visit. The statue of Skanda in the heavenly king hall is a relic from the Southern Song dynasty, carved from a single piece of camphor wood, making it extremely precious. The newly renovated Yongfu Temple in Hangzhou is located next to Lingyin Temple. Follow the signs uphill to reach it. Besides the serene ancient architecture, the temple grounds also feature a tea plantation and many ancient trees, offering quite a scenic view. Visitors must return the same way from Yongfu Temple. For those who wish to hike, there is a fork in the path halfway back to Lingyin Temple, leading to Taoguang Temple's exit and onward to Beigao Peak. This route is quiet with few people, making for a pleasant walk. Beigao Peak can be reached by hiking or taking a cable car. At the summit, the Temple of the First Wealth God under Heaven is one of Hangzhou's famous ancient temples.China · Hangzhou

Lingyin Temple, also known as "Yunlin Temple," is located at the foot of Lingyin Mountain on the west side of West Lake. With its serene environment, it is the oldest renowned temple in Hangzhou, preserving numerous exquisite cultural relics from various dynasties. This is the place where Jigong became a monk, and it is said that prayers made here are very efficacious, attracting a continuous stream of worshippers every day. Seventeen hundred years of trials have made Lingyin Temple a treasure trove of history and culture: the plaque inscribed "Yunlin Chan Temple" hanging in the heavenly king hall was written by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty; the stone pagoda in front of the main hall and the stone sutra pillar in front of the heavenly king hall are relics from the Wuyue period of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms; the temple houses precious Buddhist artifacts such as ancient palm-leaf scriptures, a gilded statue from the Eastern Wei dynasty, a handwritten copy of the "Diamond Sutra" by Dong Qichang of the Ming dynasty, and the wooden dragon sutra from the Yongzheng era of the Qing dynasty. Lingyin Temple is also where the monk "Jigong" (Daoji) was ordained. In the Daoji Chan Master Hall of Lingyin Temple, a statue of Jigong is enshrined, holding a broken fan in his right hand, prayer beads in his left, and resting his right foot on a wine jar. Lingyin Temple is nestled against the Northern Peak and faces Feilai Peak. Though Feilai Peak is not tall, it features numerous fantastically shaped caves and over 340 Buddhist rock carvings dating back to the Five Dynasties period, making it a rare gem of ancient grotto art in southern China. The temple enjoys year-round bustling incense offerings, especially on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month or major Buddhist festivals, when devotees flock from all directions, creating massive crowds.China · Hangzhou

Lu Xun Native Place

Lu Xun Native Place is a historic district with white walls and black tiles in the ancient city of Shaoxing, where the literary giant Lu Xun spent his youth. Many sites related to his life are now concentrated here. Lu Xun's former residence is where he was born, and the Hundred-Grass Garden behind the house was his childhood playground. The vegetable plots, stone well railings, honey locust tree, and the short earthen wall mentioned in the essay "From Hundred-Grass Garden to Three-Flavor Study" can still be seen today. Not far away, the Three-Flavor Study is located within the Shou Family Terrace Gate, where you can see the desk Lu Xun used as a student, with the character "early" carved by him still visible on the corner. The district also includes the Lu Xun Ancestral Residence where his ancestors lived, a memorial hall displaying his life story, and the Lu Xun's Literary Scenes Garden that recreates the life scenes from his works. For those who have read Lu Xun's works, this place feels more like a "literary scene" you can step into: the Tugu Temple and Jingxiu Nunnery from "The True Story of Ah Q," the Changqing Temple where he was once a nominal disciple in his childhood, and the Hengji Pawnshop where the young Lu Xun often pawned belongings after his family's decline are all nestled among the streets and alleys. When tired, you can duck into the Xianheng Hotel, take a photo with the bronze statue of "Kong Yiji" at the entrance, order a plate of fennel beans and warm a bowl of Shaoxing wine to savor the slow-paced life of Shaoxing. The street also offers local snacks like stinky tofu, or you can board a wupeng boat and let the boatman row you through the waterways to see this ancient city from a different perspective.Shaoxing · 62.9 km from Xinchang

Our original plan was to visit Xuedou Temple, but online we could only find tickets for Xuedou Mountain. Today we visited all the other spots except Xu Fuyan. It required some physical stamina, especially San Yin Tan (Three Hidden Pools), as the vertical drop was quite strenuous. Getting better and better.

A specially booked 2-hour in-depth guided tour was well worth the wait. The guide, deeply knowledgeable about the thousand-year-old cultural heritage of Guoqing Temple, eloquently recounted the temple's founding by Master Zhiyi and the aesthetic beauty of its ancient architecture, brick by brick. The two-hour tour allowed for a leisurely walk through the entire temple grounds, away from the crowds, offering a tranquil and immersive experience. Shedding the superficiality of a rushed tour, the guide helped participants understand the profound meaning of "If the temple is established, the country will be at peace." The gentle and unhurried explanation provided a healing and Zen-like journey, highly recommended.

I came to Shengzhou during the May Day holiday and visited Chongren Ancient Town. I didn't have high expectations because I saw mixed reviews online. But when I got there, I fell in love with this place all of a sudden. The ancient town has been renovated, but it is not overly commercialized. It is original and there are not many tourists. It is very pleasant to stroll in the alleys and go around. The road is very clean, the houses and buildings are well preserved and distinctive, and there are villagers living in them. I feel that such an ancient town is worth a visit!

The venue wasn't large, but you could see everything clearly from section B. There were many foreigners, which was quite interesting. The food was delicious and exquisite, and with the performances, it was an immersive experience for Chinese people as well. There was also a hands-on activity (paper cutting was a bit difficult 😅). Each dish was served with tea.

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. to watch the sunrise at 6:10 a.m., and it was a magical experience. The sky was painted in a thousand different colours!I then explored Xihai Grand Canyon and took the funicular. The views were magnificent! From there, you can continue hiking to other peaks or head to the cable car to descend to the city.I spent a little more time wandering around, but as the day was sunny, huge crowds started pouring in. I decided to leave before it got too busy.An unforgettable morning!

Huangling has a long-standing reputation, and I came here with high expectations. Even though I traveled during off-peak hours, it was still quite crowded. Fortunately, the parking lot was large and free, and the management was good! The scenic area is not large, and it's quite comfortable to walk around. There are quite a few steps, and the restrooms were very clean!

At the summit, there's just a rock and a flat area, nothing special. On the other side, there's a temple to the God of Wealth with 1399 steps. You need to be very sincere to reach the top. Below are various Buddhist halls and temples, as well as some stone carvings of Buddha statues. The scenery is pleasant, with mountains, water, and forests.

A rain shower brought a rare moment of clarity to the bustling scenic area; a guided tour brought life to the ordinary scenery; today we were very fortunate to have our guide, Ms. Xu, lead us on a tour of Lu Xun's former residence. Her explanations were clear and logical, and her voice was gentle and soothing. The entire journey, accompanied by intermittent rain, was truly a wonderful experience.
